Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hurley Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Renton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hurley Rodriguez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Renton!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rodriguez misses with an uppercut. Renton saw that one coming.
Renton staying out of range there.
Sloppy strikes from Rodriguez. Those never looked like landing.
Rodriguez lands a two punch combo.


It looks like Mark Renton has been cut.
Rodriguez throws a jab but it's blocked by Renton.
Rodriguez wants to clinch but Renton slips to the side
and Renton counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Rodriguez misses with a two punch combination.
Renton dodges the punch combination from Rodriguez.
Renton throws a series of punches but Rodriguez avoids them all with ease.
Rodriguez misses with a wild combination.
Rodriguez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Renton has Rodriguez up against the cage in a clinch.
Rodriguez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Renton is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Rodriguez can't fight it off and eventually Renton manages to take the fight to the floor. Rodriguez looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Renton controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Rodriguez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mark Renton wasn't active enough on the ground.

Renton moves into the clinch.
Renton keeps control of Rodriguez as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Renton turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Renton manages to end up in side control.
Rodriguez is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Renton is controlling him well.
You can see the frustration on Rodriguez's face as Renton controls the position.
It looks like Renton might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Renton is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rodriguez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Renton content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Rodriguez is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Renton asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Rodriguez is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Renton has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Renton takes a little break here. Rodriguez wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Renton works to advance to full mount. Rodriguez defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Rodriguez is squirming around, avoiding Renton's attempts to control the action.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Renton drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Renton prevents Rodriguez from getting back to his feet.
Renton is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Rodriguez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Renton passes into half guard.
Rodriguez is trying to get back to full guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Renton is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Rodriguez throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Renton uses his free foot to push down on Rodriguez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Rodriguez.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Renton is landing with some decent strikes but Rodriguez is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Rodriguez is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Renton has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Rodriguez's body.
Let's hope that Renton has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Rodriguez has gone for a leg lock! Renton slips out almost immediately though and dives into Rodriguez's guard.

Rodriguez pushes a forearm under Renton's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Renton is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
