Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Steven Seagal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Russell Joyner!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joyner swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Seagal counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Seagal misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Seagal throws a series of punches but Joyner avoids them all with ease.
Seagal displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Seagal misses with a double jab.
Seagal misses with a lunging right hand

and Joyner counters with a single leg into guard. Seagal didn't expect that.
Joyner works over Seagal with some ground and pound from guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Seagal controls Joyner momentarily but Joyner frees himself.
Joyner won't allow Seagal to get back to his feet.
Joyner wants to pass the guard but Seagal is keeping the position.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Joyner is looking to work some ground and pound but Seagal has wrist control.

Joyner throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Seagal works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Seagal is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Seagal is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Joyner not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Joyner stops Seagal from standing up.
Joyner throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Seagal works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Seagal is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Seagal's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Joyner thows a body shot but no joy.
Seagal throws a body punch but Joyner moves out of range.
Joyner slips under a jab from Seagal.
Joyner misses with a jab, cross combination.
Joyner throws a right and a left that both miss.
Nice defenses there by Seagal.
Joyner tries to score with a low kick but Seagal moves his leg out of the way.

Seagal lands a nice looking body shot.
Seagal tries for a takedown but Joyner circles away easily
enabling Joyner to counter with a crisp jab.


It looks like Steven Seagal has been cut.
Seagal scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Seagal throws a shot to the body.
Seagal lands with a cross.
Seagal throws a right hand that misses

and Joyner counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Seagal tries to kick Joyner off but Joyner keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Joyner lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Joyner thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Joyner tries to pass the half guard into mount. Seagal knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Seagal wants to control but Joyner is keeping busy.
Joyner wants to lay and pray for a moment but Seagal keeps working.
Joyner is nestled in close to Seagal, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Seagal looks like he's trying to stand up.
Seagal tries to roll over but Joyner keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Joyner prevents Seagal from standing back up.
Joyner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Seagal. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Seagal is breathing heavily.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Seagal wants to improve his position but Joyner is controlling well.
Seagal wants to get back to his feet.
Joyner content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Joyner working the head and body with strikes.
Joyner wants to control but Seagal is keeping him busy.
Seagal is trying to stand back up but Joyner is controlling him
Seagal is trying to maintain the position but Joyner is very close to passing his half guard.

Seagal looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Joyner missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Joyner uses his free foot to push down on Seagal's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Seagal.
Joyner trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Seagal's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Russell Joyner has got the better of the ground game so far.
Seagal is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Joyner is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Seagal can't stay in a position like this for much longer.


Steven Seagal's cut is getting worse.
Seagal is in a horrible position here. Joyner smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.


Seagal is rocked!


Jeez, Steven Seagal's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Steven Seagal's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
