The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thortnon throws a poor cross that misses
and Nogueira counters with a nice uppercut.
A shot to the body from Thortnon misses
and Nogueira counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Thortnon rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Thortnon takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Nogueira throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Thortnon.

letting Nogueira counter with a right hand.
Thortnon tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Nogueira was well out of range. Poor timing from Thortnon.

and Nogueira cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Nogueira swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Nogueira is defended easily by Thortnon.

Thortnon looks for the body kick but Nogueira saw that one coming.

Thortnon misses with a hook. Nogueira ducked under it nicely.
Thortnon throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Nogueira uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Thortnon.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Thortnon enables Nogueira to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Thortnon manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Nogueira wants to control from the top but Thortnon keeps moving.

Nogueira drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Nogueira jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Nogueira here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Thortnon is breathing heavily.
Nogueira tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Nogueira swings around for an armbar but Thortnon sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Nogueira's guard.

Nogueira had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Thortnon defends it easily.
Nogueira wants to sweep but no luck.
