PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Musashimaru Koyo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dana Whyte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Koyo comes to the cage accompanied by "Tengoku Kara Kaminari" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Whyte has chosen Imagine - John Lennon as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 3 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, Musashimaru Koyo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dana Whyte!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koyo gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Whyte counters with a nice uppercut.
Whyte blocks a low kick nicely.
Koyo is looking to slow Whyte down with leg kicks.
Whyte with a poor takedown

and Koyo counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Koyo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Whyte's head.
Whyte regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Koyo.
Koyo throwing strikes but missing.
Whyte avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Whyte wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Whyte manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Koyo manages to get himself to full guard.

Koyo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Whyte connects with a couple of short punches.
Whyte keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Koyo's head.
Whyte is stalling in the full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Whyte accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Whyte wants to control from the top but Koyo keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Koyo is on top in guard.
Whyte bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Koyo's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dana Whyte dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Whyte closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Koyo did well to prevent Whyte getting side control.

Whyte is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Koyo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Whyte.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Whyte landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Whyte is looking to stall here but Koyo recovers full guard.
Koyo looking to control but Whyte passes into half guard.
Koyo is trying to control but can't.

Whyte looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Whyte has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Whyte prevents Koyo from improving his position.
Whyte working the head and body with strikes.
Koyo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Whyte is stalling here. Koyo is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Whyte seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Koyo has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Koyo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Whyte keeps working.
Whyte sneaks back into half guard.

Whyte is staying active underneath Koyo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Whyte is controlling Koyo's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Koyo thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Whyte to regain full guard.

Koyo landing some decent shots from guard.
Whyte pulls Koyo in close to prevent any damage.
Whyte controls Koyo momentarily but Koyo frees himself.
Koyo loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Koyo trying to control the position from guard on top but Whyte is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Musashimaru Koyo just wasn't active enough.
Koyo lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Koyo dips to his left and cracks Whyte with an uppercut!
Koyo swings for the body but Whyte moves out of range.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Koyo.
Koyo misses with a low kick.
Koyo goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Koyo scoring well with a low kick there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Musashimaru Koyo will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Whyte gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Koyo counters with an outside leg kick.
Whyte shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Koyo sprawls well. Koyo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Whyte gets slowly back to his feet.
Whyte ducks right into an uppercut from Koyo.
Koyo throws a head kick that misses
and Whyte counters with a stiff right hand.
Koyo missing with a left hand there. Whyte was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Whyte looks to throw the jab but Koyo is out of range.

A good leg kick by Koyo.
Koyo scoring well with a low kick there.
Koyo takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Whyte shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Koyo counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Whyte!
Musashimaru Koyo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dana Whyte.
Koyo lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.


It looks like Dana Whyte has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Koyo lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Koyo unloads with some shots from mount but Whyte bucks and avoids them well.

Koyo can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Whyte is looking to escape.
