Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Royce Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyle Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Royce Gracie has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Royce Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kyle Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Albert Achterberg and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Nelson enables Gracie to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Nelson manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Gracie passes Nelson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Nelson is refusing to be controlled, as Gracie sits in half guard.
Nelson wants to improve his position but Gracie is controlling well.
Nelson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though.
Gracie wants to control but Nelson is keeping him busy.
Gracie trying to pass the guard but Nelson defending well.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Gracie seems to be working for a kimura but Nelson defends the submission attempt.

Gracie is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Nelson reverses the position - he's now on top in Gracie's guard.
Nelson wants to pass the guard but Gracie is keeping the position.

Gracie is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Nelson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Gracie tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Nelson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Gracie is working hard here to advance position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Nelson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gracie has escaped the position, nice work there.

Gracie manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Gracie not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nelson keeps working.
Nelson tries to get to full guard but Gracie has control of the leg.
Gracie is pressing down on Nelson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Nelson is holding on for now.

Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Nelson is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gracie wants to work for an arm triangle but Nelson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Gracie passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Nelson!

Gracie moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Nelson has worked his arm free - good work by Nelson!

Gracie swings around for an armbar but Nelson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gracie's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Gracie working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nelson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nelson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Gracie is breathing heavily.

Gracie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Nelson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Nelson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Nelson looking to sit in guard and control but Gracie gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Nelson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Royce Gracie dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


Nelson leaves Gracie with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Gracie or perhaps it was just good defense by Nelson which made him look bad.
Gracie is trying hard to land a takedown here. Nelson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Royce Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nelson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gracie, pushing him back against the ropes.

Gracie is fighting off a takedown attempt but Nelson is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Gracie to the mat. Gracie regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Nelson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gracie has momentary wrist control but Nelson slips an elbow through the middle.

Nelson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nelson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nelson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Gracie had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Nelson defends it easily.

Nelson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Nelson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Gracie might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Nelson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Gracie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Nelson defends well.

Gracie bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Nelson's guard.
Gracie wants to pass the guard but Nelson is keeping the position.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Nelson holds on and takes a little breather.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nelson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gracie drops back looking for a leg! Nelson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Nelson manages to kick Gracie off! Gracie jumps back into Nelson's guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Nelson trying to keep a closed guard but Gracie is proving a slippery customer.

Gracie has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Nelson to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Gracie is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Nelson pulls down on the head and he's put Gracie to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Kyle Nelson!
