The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson tries to clinch
and Roscas counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Roscas forces Thompson back against the cage and clinches.
Roscas has Thompson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Thompson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Thompson fails to pull guard.
Thompson is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Roscas goes for a takedown attempt but Thompson pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Hunter Thompson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ze Roscas.

Thompson is trying hard to land a takedown here. Roscas sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Thompson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Thompson wants it to stay on the feet.

and Roscas counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Roscas would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Thompson is trying to control the position but Roscas postures up.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Hunter Thompson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Roscas misses with a takedown attempt - Thompson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Thompson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Roscas uses from the top position.

Thompson has his foot on Roscas's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Roscas works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Roscas is sitting in close to Thompson's body. Thompson has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Roscas is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Roscas is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Thompson.
