PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Doug Copley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Potty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Potty has chosen welcome to the jungle as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Doug Copley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Potty!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Bruno Lombardi and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Potty tries to clinch up
and Copley counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Potty tries to clinch but Copley moves away
and Potty takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Copley counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Potty closes the distance looking to clinch
and Copley counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Copley fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Potty avoids it really well and circles away.
Copley circles away from the clinch attempt

and Copley decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Potty's guard.

Copley drops back looking for a leg! Potty is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Potty manages to kick Copley off! Copley jumps back into Potty's guard.
Potty utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Copley won't allow Potty to get back to his feet.
Copley trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Copley throws a big right hand that misses.
Potty wants to stand and escape but Copley is having none of it.
Copley throwing strikes but missing.

Copley thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Potty wants to get back to his feet but Copley is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Potty manages to escape and get back to his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Potty darts in trying to clinch
and Copley counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Potty wants to clinch

and Copley counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Copley has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Copley is looking to work some ground and pound but Potty has wrist control.
Copley trying to control but Potty is working from the bottom.

Copley is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Potty wants to get back to his feet but Copley is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Copley trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Copley passes into half guard.

Copley stands up from half guard.
Copley circles away from the clinch attempt
and Copley counters with a stiff right hand.

Copley gets a clinch.
Potty tries to land a knee to the head but Copley blocks with his arms.
Copley tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Potty smiles and moves away.

Copley closes the distance and clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Copley blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Potty is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Copley is keeping busy.
Copley can't break the clinch.
Copley lands a right hand that snaps the head of Potty backwards.
Potty is looking to control Copley's arms but Copley gets an underhook and turns him. Now Potty has his back to the cage.
Potty seems frustrated at his inability to get double underhooks.
Copley jumps guard but Potty stands there with Copley around his waist. Copley gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Doug Copley. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Copley tries to score a body lock takedown but Potty shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Copley tries to break free but Potty pushes him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Copley's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Copley throws a head kick but Potty moves out of range.
Potty tries to clinch

and Copley counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Potty's guard now.
Copley won't allow Potty to get back to his feet.
Copley trying to control but Potty is working from the bottom.
Copley content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Potty wants to stand and escape but Copley is having none of it.

Copley stands and steps away. Potty gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Copley shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Copley is taking a breather. Potty says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Copley seems to be looking for submissions.
Potty is not content to let Copley control the position.
Copley is really struggling to control Potty but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Potty really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Copley. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Potty is looking to escape.

Potty manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Good standup being displayed there by Copley as he connects with a hook.
Copley is trying hard to land a takedown here. Potty sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Copley closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Copley is trying to stall.
Potty with a knee to the head.
Potty tries a knee to the head but Copley blocks it.
Copley jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Potty walks away with a smile on his face. Copley gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Copley counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Potty's guard now.

Copley thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Potty avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Copley is looking to work some ground and pound but Potty has wrist control.
Copley prevents Potty from getting back to his feet.

Copley lands a couple of elbows.

Copley postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Potty is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Copley, into his guard.
Potty wants to stand but Copley has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Potty is breathing heavily.

Copley looking for a guillotine here but Potty defends easily.

Copley wriggles free and stands up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Potty darts in trying to clinch

and Copley holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Potty creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Copley misses with a hook from the clinch.
Potty wants to stall.
Copley avoids a wild elbow strike from Potty.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Copley.
Copley trying to control the position but instead, Potty has worked for underhooks and has pushed Copley into the cage.
Copley fails to pull the fight into his guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Copley counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Potty wants to clinch but Copley slips to the side

and Copley moves into the clinch.

Copley dodges an elbow strike from Potty.
The referee calls for Potty to work.
Potty doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Potty misses with a punch to the body.

A head punch blocked on the inside by Copley.

Copley goes for a takedown attempt but Potty pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Copley fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Potty tries to clinch up

and Copley counters with a single leg into guard. Potty didn't expect that.
Potty is looking to stand up but Copley isn't so interested in that idea.
Copley postures up in Potty's guard and throws a big left but Potty blocks it.
Doug Copley overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Copley sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Potty's guard.
Copley trying to mount his opponent but Potty defends it.

Potty tries to kick Copley off but Copley keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Potty wants to stand back up but Copley manages to pass into side control.
Copley wants to control but Potty is keeping him busy.
Potty pushes Copley away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Copley gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Copley wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Potty, who protects the arm well.
Potty is trying to get back to his feet.

Copley is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Potty knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Potty wants to get back to his feet but Copley drags him back down.

Copley is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Potty has escaped the position, nice work there.
Copley cracks Potty with a big elbow.

Copley is working Potty over with some ground and pound from side control.
Jon Potty has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Copley, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
