The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hanson throws a nice looking combination but Pihlaja bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hanson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Pihlaja, pushing him back against the cage.
Hanson tries a knee to the head but Pihlaja blocks it.
Pihlaja fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Hanson misses with a knee strike.
Hanson connects with a knee to the head.
Pihlaja tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Pihlaja jumps guard but Hanson stands there with Pihlaja around his waist. Pihlaja gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
John Wayne Hanson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Veikko Pihlaja.
Pihlaja tries to pull guard but Hanson won't allow it.
Hanson with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Pihlaja jumps into guard, dragging Hanson to the mat.
Pihlaja looking for a guillotine here but Hanson defends easily.
Pihlaja is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Pihlaja pushes a forearm under Hanson's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Hanson is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
