PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rowland Edwards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes into a darkened arena with his song building. kung fu fighting kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rowland Edwards!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Matthew Jones!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Arvi Lind and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edwards lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Jones avoids the head kick by Edwards.
Edwards scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Jones gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Edwards counters with a body kick that stops Jones in his tracks momentarily.

Jones gets a double leg takedown into Edwards's guard.
Jones throws and elbow that misses. Edwards uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jones's guard. Nice move by Edwards!
Jones is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

and Edwards makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Edwards holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Jones tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jones shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Edwards sprawls well. Edwards wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jones gets slowly back to his feet.

Edwards gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Jones to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Edwards swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jones looking to sit in guard and control but Edwards gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Jones looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Edwards slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Jones has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Rowland Edwards has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Jones shoots in but no luck this time.

Rowland Edwards showed his dominance in that final round.
