PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phil Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rich Omega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jackson comes to the cage accompanied by Rampage Song. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Phil Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rich Omega!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Omega rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jackson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Omega shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
enabling Jackson to counter with a crisp jab.
Jackson throws a combination that misses
and Omega counters with a three punch combo that has Jackson backing up. Jackson nods at Omega to acknowledge the strikes.

Omega gets a clinch.
Omega throws a punch but it's blocked by Jackson.
Jackson tries for a takedown. No joy.
Jackson wants a takedown.

Jackson lands a takedown into guard.
Jackson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Omega swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Omega trying to keep a closed guard but Jackson is proving a slippery customer.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jackson works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Jackson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Jackson wants to pass to mount but Omega is defending the position.

Jackson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Omega defends it well.
Jackson is looking to advance position but Omega won't allow it.
Jackson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Omega's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jackson winds up and cracks Omega with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jackson wants to pass to mount but Omega is defending the position.
Jackson controlling the action here.
Omega wants to get back to his feet.
Jackson landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Jackson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Omega's head.

Jackson is looking for a kimura here.
Omega holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jackson wants to pass the guard but Omega is defending well.
Jackson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Jackson wants to take a breather but Omega is having none of it.
Omega really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jackson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Omega kicks Jackson off and gets back to his feet.
Omega fails to land with a series of punches.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Omega falls off balance throwing a combination
and Jackson counters with a one-two to the body.
Jackson misses with a wild combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phil Jackson dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Omega doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Jackson counters with a series of strikes. Omega will be more careful next time no doubt.
Jackson closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Omega misses with a combination
and Jackson counters with a nice body shot.
Jackson throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Jackson dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Omega is breathing heavily.

Jackson lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Omega throws a right hand that misses
and Jackson counters with a three punch combo that has Omega backing up. Omega nods at Jackson to acknowledge the strikes.


It looks like Rich Omega has been cut.
Sloppy strikes from Jackson. Those never looked like landing.
Omega tries to clinch but Jackson moves away
and Jackson counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Jackson looks to land a combination but Omega avoids it well.
Jackson throws out a powerful jab.
Jackson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Omega circles away quickly and effectively.

Jackson throws a combination that misses

and Omega counters with a single leg into guard. Jackson didn't expect that.
Jackson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Omega is controlling him.
Omega being controlled here momentarily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Jackson has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Omega off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Jackson misses with a double jab
and Omega counters with a two punch combo.

Omega shoots and misses

and Jackson counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Omega wants to stall.
Omega connects with a knee to the head.
Omega is pressed up against the cage. Jackson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Omega down to the mat. Omega avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Omega tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Omega throws a sloppy head kick and Jackson moves out of range easily.

and Omega moves into the clinch.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jackson avoiding damage as Omega throws knees to the body.
Jackson blocks an uppercut.
Omega wants a takedown but no success here.
Phil Jackson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rich Omega.
Omega lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Jackson looking for a takedown.

Jackson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Omega pulls his leg out and moves away.
Jackson looks to land a combination but Omega avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Phil Jackson will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Rich Omega's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Jackson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Omega manages to avoid it.
Omega takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Jackson wants to clinch.
Jackson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Omega counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jackson won't be happy with that.
Jackson tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Rich Omega has got the better of the ground game so far.
Omega prevents Jackson from getting the reversal.

Jackson is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Omega throwing strikes here but Jackson is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Omega moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Jackson has worked his arm free - good work by Jackson!
You can see the frustration on Jackson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Omega wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jackson keeps working.
Jackson is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Omega looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Jackson is avoiding damage well.

Omega stops Jackson from getting back to his feet.
Omega prevents Jackson from improving his position.
Omega is trying to control. Jackson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rich Omega comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jackson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
