PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Robb Flynn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Madden Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Robb Flynn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Madden Rush!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Aafke Stam and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Flynn dives in and grabs Rush's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rush pushes down on Flynn's head and hops out.
Robb Flynn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rush shoots in for a takedown but Flynn shows good takedown defense.
Rush shoots in looking for a takedown. Flynn tries to sprawl out of it but Rush keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Flynn manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Flynn looks to land a combination but Rush avoids it well.
Flynn lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Rush.
Robb Flynn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Madden Rush.
Rush tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Flynn swivels and escapes.

Flynn kicks Rush off and gets back to his feet.

Flynn lands some shots froms side control.
Flynn tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Flynn is working Rush over with some ground and pound from side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rush takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Rush keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Flynn's head.

Rush drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Flynn dives on top into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Flynn accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Flynn postures up and lands a big shot to Rush's brow.

Rush has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Flynn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Flynn slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Flynn works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Flynn tries for a kimura but Rush is defending well.

Rush takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Rush is looking for a sweep.
The ground and pound from Flynn seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Rush on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Sloppy strikes there by Flynn.
Rush parries the strikes from Flynn easily there. Flynn is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Rush to escape.

Flynn postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rush is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Flynn, into his guard.
Rush lands a couple of digs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robb Flynn dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Flynn has Rush up against the cage in a clinch.
Flynn wants a takedown but no success here.
Rush prevents a takedown attempt there.
Flynn swings wildly with an uppercut but Rush uses good head movement to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rush jumps guard but Flynn stands there with Rush around his waist. Rush gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Flynn really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Flynn can't get the takedown.

Flynn's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

It looks like Madden Rush has been cut.

Rush drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Flynn manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Rush shoots in for a double leg but Flynn sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Rush utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Flynn is in close to Rush's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Flynn winds up and cracks Rush with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Rush gets back to full guard.

Rush has his foot on Flynn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Flynn works his way back into a safe position though.

Rush manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Flynn manages to get himself to full guard.

Flynn pushes Rush off and gets back to his feet.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

and Flynn counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Rush's guard now.
Flynn lands a couple of elbows.
Flynn connects with a couple of short punches.

Flynn drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Flynn jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Flynn wanted to stand there but Rush had control of the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Flynn stands up over Rush, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Flynn drops back, looking for a kneebar! Rush looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Rush looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Rush!

Rush working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Flynn is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Rush is controlling him well.
Rush throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Flynn works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Robb Flynn is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Flynn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Madden Rush has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rush throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Rush looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Flynn pushes Rush off looking to stand but Rush dives back in and keeps control.

Rush is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Flynn sees it coming and defends easily.

The fighters are battling for position here. Flynn manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Rush has gone for a leg lock! Flynn slips out almost immediately though and dives into Rush's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Flynn is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Rush is trying to keep Flynn in close.
Flynn engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Robb Flynn.
Flynn keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Flynn decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Well Flynn has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
