PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Heero Yuy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andy Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yuy comes to the cage accompanied by Coma Black - Marilyn Manson. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Heero Yuy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Andy Pain!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A lazy left from Pain finds it's target.
Pain swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Yuy counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Yuy content to stall in guard here.
Yuy slips nicely into half guard.
Yuy trying to pass the guard but Pain defending well.
Pain wants to get back to full guard.
Yuy works his way into side control.
The strikes coming from Yuy are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Yuy cracks Pain with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Pain defending against the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yuy decides to stand back up.
Pain misses with a double jab

and Yuy counters with a nice double leg into side control. Pain won't be happy with that.
Yuy works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Yuy scoring with punches and elbows.
Yuy remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Yuy throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Pain can't do much from the bottom here.

Yuy controls the position.
Yuy scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Pain to see if he's OK.
Pain parries the strikes from Yuy easily there. Yuy is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Pain to escape.
Yuy is putting a hurting on Pain here, landing some big shots from side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Yuy passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Pain!

Yuy working the ground and pound effectively.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Yuy can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pain is looking to escape.
Pain is in all sorts of trouble here.
Yuy lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Pain hang on?
Yuy misses with a head shot.

Yuy goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Pain is on top in guard.
Pain trying to control the position from guard on top but Yuy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pain won't allow Yuy to get back to his feet.

Pain drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Yuy dives on top into guard.
Yuy trying to stand up but can't free himself from Pain's guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Yuy not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yuy shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Yuy looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Pain tries to roll over but Yuy keeps him under control.
Pain won't allow Yuy to pass to mount.
Pain is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Yuy is trying to control. Pain wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Yuy wants to stand but Pain has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Pain is refusing to be controlled, as Yuy sits in half guard.
Yuy looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Yuy missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Yuy trying to control from Pain's half guard. Pain has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Yuy wants to pass the guard but Pain is keeping the position.
Yuy's corner is telling him to maintain position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Pain working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Yuy doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Yuy manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Yuy working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Yuy has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Pain keeping moving, preventing Yuy from controlling successfully.

Yuy prevents Pain from getting back to his feet.

Yuy trying to control the position from guard on top but Pain is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Heero Yuy.
Nice uppercut lands for Pain. That snapped Yuy's head back.
Pain misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Andy Pain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Yuy throws a right and a left that both miss.
Yuy misses with a combination
and Pain counters with a two punch combo.
Pain throws a hook but Yuy blocks it.
Pain throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Pain falls off balance throwing a combination

and Yuy counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Pain avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Yuy.
Yuy thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pain's head.
Yuy is thwarting Pain's attempts to control the position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Yuy connects with a nice short shot to Pain's temple.

Pain blocking the ground and pound attempt from Yuy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Heero Yuy dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Pain looks to land a combination but Yuy avoids it well.

Yuy shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Yuy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pain keeps working.
Pain is trying to maintain the position but Yuy is very close to passing his half guard.
Yuy is looking to take a break and control but Pain is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Yuy thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Pain is looking to control Yuy's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pain avoid being mounted?

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Pain throws a right hand that Yuy ducks under and follows up with a left that Yuy also avoids with ease.
Yuy throws a series of punches but Pain moves out of range.
Pain throws a right and a left that both miss.
A left lands for Yuy.

Yuy drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Yuy passes into half guard.
Yuy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pain does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Pain is trying to maintain the position but Yuy is very close to passing his half guard.
Yuy is taking a breather. Pain says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Yuy is keen to just control but Pain is a slippery customer.
Yuy is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Yuy landing strikes, looking to finish!
Yuy is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Pain can do to turn this around?
Yuy throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Pain because Yuy loaded up on that one.
Pain is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Yuy pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Yuy avoids the attempt from Pain to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yuy lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Pain is looking to improve his position but Yuy isn't that keen on the idea.
Yuy raining down hammerfists from mount.
BOOM! Yuy connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Pain is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Yuy dominating with strikes here.


Pain is rocked!
Yuy unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Pain wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Yuy celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Heero Yuy!
