PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Brashears (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Rich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brashears comes into the arena with Walk by Pantera blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brandon Brashears!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jay Rich!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brashears throws a head kick that misses.
Brashears walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rich.

Rich shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Brashears napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Rich cracks Brashears with a big right hand but Brashears just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Rich connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Brashears some visible discomfort.
Rich trying to control the action but Brashears is working from the bottom.
Brashears managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Rich.
Rich fails to land a wild elbow strike.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rich misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Rich throws a strike aimed at the side of Brashears's head but Brashears avoids it well.
Rich is looking to take a break and control but Brashears is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rich tries to score with some ground and pound. Brashears controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Rich creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Brashears sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Rich is looking to take a break and control but Brashears is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Rich swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Brashears counters with a good, hard body kick but Rich shrugs it off.
Rich connects with a good right hand that stumbles Brashears. Brashears circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Rich looks to land a right hand but Brashears moved out of range.
Jay Rich seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rich misses the shot to the body.

Rich shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Brashears keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Rich working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Rich throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Brashears works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Rich postures up and lands a big shot to Brashears's brow.
Rich must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Brashears wants to stand and escape but Rich is having none of it.

Rich throws and elbow that misses. Brashears uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rich's guard. Nice move by Brashears!

Rich keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Rich fails to land with a series of punches.
Rich misses with a double jab.
Rich misses the shot to the body.
Rich shoots in and drives through. Brashears sprawls well.

Rich throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Brashears counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Rich fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Brashears avoids it really well and circles away.
Brandon Brashears is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rich moves in looking to clinch but Brashears pushes him off.
A lazy left from Rich finds it's target.
Rich throws an off balance right hand
and Brashears counters with a stiff right hand.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rich.
Brandon Brashears has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay Rich.
Brashears lands with a kick to the temple. Rich shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Brashears throws a head kick that Rich semi-blocks.
Rich jabbing away but nothing is landing.

That was a close second round but I would say that Brandon Brashears will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Rich misses with an uppercut
and Brashears makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Rich really felt that one!
Brashears checks a low kick from Rich.
Brashears moves in looking to clinch but Rich pushes him off.
Brashears connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Rich throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Rich throws a right hand that Brashears ducks under and follows up with a left that Brashears also avoids with ease.
Brashears takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Rich closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Brashears quickly recovers to half guard.
Rich throwing shots but Brashears is blocking nicely.
Brashears tries to kick Rich off but Rich keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Rich misses with a head shot. Brashears uses the momentum to regain guard.
Rich stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brashears swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Brashears wants to stand but Rich is controlling the position.
Rich landing with the ground and pound.
Brashears working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Rich.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Rich is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Brashears is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Brashears has escaped and now he's on top!

Brashears tries to stand but Rich is controlling from the bottom.

Rich is trying to control the position but Brashears postures up.
Rich avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Rich is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rich is trying to control but can't.
Brashears blocks the strikes from Rich.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rich tries to get to full guard but Brashears has control of the leg.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Brandon Brashears.
I think Brashears has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
