PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Dickson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Veldrane Sengir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Veldrane Sengir was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bruce Dickson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Veldrane Sengir!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

and Sengir holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Dickson is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Sengir pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sengir in particular looking to stall.

Dickson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sengir pulls his head out easily.

Well, if Sengir is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sengir postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Dickson looks a forlorn figure.

Sengir is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Dickson is surviving well by controlling Sengir's body position as best he can.

Let's hope that Sengir has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Sengir uses his free foot to push down on Dickson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Dickson.

Sengir really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dickson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Dickson is working an open guard so Sengir takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Sengir shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sengir showed some decent athleticism there.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Veldrane Sengir wasn't active enough on the ground.

Sengir fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Dickson sprawls well initially but Sengir persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Sengir connects with a nice short shot to Dickson's temple.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Veldrane Sengir hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Sengir bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Dickson tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Sengir presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Sengir looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Sengir stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Dickson shoots and misses

so Sengir counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Sengir is stalling in the full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Veldrane Sengir has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

and Sengir counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Dickson's guard now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Veldrane Sengir showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Dickson doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Sengir decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Dickson's guard.
Sengir throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dickson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Sengir gets to mount! Dickson was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Sengir has hold of Dickson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Dickson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Sengir has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Sengir tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dickson is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Sengir wants to finish this one by submission but Dickson is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Sengir.

Veldrane Sengir is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Dickson is looking to regain half guard here but Sengir keeps moving and retains side control.
You can see the frustration on Dickson's face as Sengir controls the position.

Well Sengir has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
