PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sami Holmen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Masahiro Tanaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tanaka is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Debonaire by Dope. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Masahiro Tanaka!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Kenichi Hosakawa and Tatsuya Matsuyama.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Holmen closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Holmen moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Tanaka.

Holmen looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Holmen is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Holmen is breathing heavily.

Holmen decides to stand back up. Holmen steps back and let's Tanaka get back to his feet.
Holmen avoids a punch combination nicely.

Holmen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Tanaka looking for a guillotine here but Holmen defends easily.
Holmen trying to control the position from guard on top but Tanaka is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Holmen could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Holmen chips away with some ground and pound.

Tanaka is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Tanaka escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Holmen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Tanaka had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Holmen is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Tanaka Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Holmen's back instead.
Tanaka doesn't have the hooks in and Holmen manages to turn into his guard.
Holmen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Tanaka throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Holmen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tanaka swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Holmen passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Tanaka manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Holmen seems to be working for a kimura but Tanaka defends the submission attempt.
Tanaka is looking for a sweep. Holmen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Holmen is working for a kimura but Tanaka is defending it quite comfortably.
Holmen is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Tanaka!

Holmen lands with some strikes.
Tanaka is looking to improve his position but Holmen isn't that keen on the idea.
Tanaka wants to control but Holmen is having none of it.

Tanaka is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Holmen is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Tanaka is surviving well by controlling Holmen's body position as best he can.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Holmen has control of Tanaka's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Tanaka regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Holmen wants to finish this one by submission but Tanaka is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Holmen.

Holmen working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Tanaka turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Holmen off and cradles Tanaka's limp body as Holmen celebrates with his corner.
