Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sergey Verhnevolsky!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roberto Carlos!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Viktor Lagutenko and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Verhnevolsky pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Verhnevolsky throws a head kick that misses.
Carlos throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Verhnevolsky enables Carlos to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Verhnevolsky manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Carlos slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Carlos must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Verhnevolsky is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Carlos lands a couple of elbows.

Carlos gets to his feet - Verhnevolsky follows without any prompting.
Verhnevolsky is breathing heavily.
Verhnevolsky misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Carlos decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Carlos postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Verhnevolsky to stand up.
Verhnevolsky misses with a head kick.

Carlos closes the distance and pushes Verhnevolsky back into the cage.

Carlos pulls guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Carlos looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Carlos utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Carlos wants to stand and escape but Verhnevolsky is having none of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Carlos is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Verhnevolsky defends well.
Carlos seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Carlos's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Carlos has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Verhnevolsky doesn't defend quickly enough and Carlos has managed to lock this one up! Can Verhnevolsky escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Carlos on a fantastic submission victory.
