Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russell fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Russell connects with a looping right hand.
Menezes looks for a takedown but Russell sprawls well.
Menezes tries for a takedown but Russell sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Menezes needs to keep his hands up - Russell had a free shot at his head there.
Menezes shoots in but no luck this time.
Buck Russell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Charles Menezes.
Russell cracks Menezes with a good jab.

Menezes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Menezes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Russell holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Menezes tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Russell is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Menezes cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Menezes is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Russell has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Russell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Menezes on the ground.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Russell takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Menezes lands a nice shot to the head.
Russell is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Menezes scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Menezes cracks Russell with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
