Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dominick Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Skip Stevens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dominick Cruz could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Skip Stevens's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dominick Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Skip Stevens!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Emerson Jorge and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stevens fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Cruz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Cruz can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Stevens controls the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cruz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Stevens doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Stevens manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Cruz not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Cruz isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Stevens stacks Cruz on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Stevens!

Stevens decides to stand back up. Stevens steps back and let's Cruz get back to his feet.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cruz can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Stevens controls the pace.

Cruz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Stevens throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Stevens tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Cruz tries to hold on but Stevens pushes him away.

Cruz wants to control but Stevens is having none of it.

Stevens throws some wild stikes that Cruz manages to avoid easily.
Cruz is wriggling around trying to escape.
Stevens is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Cruz tries to hold on but Stevens pushes him away.
Stevens prevents Cruz from getting the reversal.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cruz regains half guard.
Cruz slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Stevens stops Cruz from standing up.

Cruz looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cruz is on top in guard.
Cruz trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Cruz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Cruz is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Skip Stevens dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Cruz shoots in looking for a takedown. Stevens tries to sprawl out of it but Cruz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Stevens manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Stevens is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Skip Stevens has got the better of the ground game so far.
Cruz is refusing to be controlled, as Stevens sits in half guard.

Cruz is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Stevens's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Stevens's back!

Cruz looking to break Stevens's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Stevens remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Cruz will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Cruz is persistently looking for the submission but Stevens is defending it well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cruz is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Stevens is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Cruz off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Stevens is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Cruz gets his way!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Stevens takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Cruz is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Stevens rolls with it to try and escape but Cruz cranks on the arm and Stevens is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
