PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dan Hardy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Flip Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dan Hardy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Flip Marshall!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Skip Squint and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hardy gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Marshall to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Marshall postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hardy utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Hardy keeping full guard, as Marshall tries to pass.
Marshall working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Marshall pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hardy is keeping the position for now.
Marshall stops Hardy from standing up.

Marshall postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hardy is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Marshall, into his guard.
Marshall looking for a sweep. Not yet Marshall, not yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Marshall is trying to control the position but Hardy postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marshall is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hardy misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Marshall works his foot free and advances to mount.
Marshall cracks Hardy with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Hardy is breathing heavily.
Hardy is looking to get to half guard.
BOOM! Marshall connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Marshall is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Hardy is surviving well by controlling Marshall's body position as best he can.
Marshall putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

Hardy is looking to improve his position but Marshall isn't that keen on the idea.
Hardy tries to hold on but Marshall pushes him away.

Marshall jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Hardy manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The strikes coming from Marshall are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Marshall looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Marshall thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Check out the look on Marshall's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Hardy tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Marshall lands an elbow.

Marshall tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Hardy sneaks back into half guard.

Marshall trying to work for an americana but Hardy has managed to regain full guard.
Hardy preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Marshall looking to pass the guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hardy is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Marshall is controlling him.
Hardy looking for a sweep. Not yet Hardy, not yet.
Marshall keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hardy's head.
Hardy has momentary wrist control but Marshall slips an elbow through the middle.
Hardy wants to sweep but no luck.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Marshall accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Marshall working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Marshall in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Marshall has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hardy bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Marshall's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Flip Marshall dominated that round.
That's time! Hardy's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Marshall shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Marshall showed some decent athleticism there.
Marshall wants to pass to mount but Hardy is defending the position.
Hardy trying to hold on to Marshall's head to control him but Marshall postures up.
Marshall prevents Hardy from standing back up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Marshall not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Marshall passes to full mount!
Hardy is in all sorts of trouble here.

Marshall wants to finish this one by submission but Hardy is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Marshall.
Marshall prevents Hardy from getting the reversal.

Marshall is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Hardy to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hardy shrugs it off.

Marshall is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Hardy has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Hardy!
Marshall controls Hardy momentarily but Hardy frees himself.
Hardy wants to control from the top but Marshall keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hardy thows a big elbow that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marshall being controlled here, momentarily.
Hardy stopping the sweep attempt from Marshall.
Hardy stays in close to Marshall's body and controls the position.
Flip Marshall has got the better of the ground game so far.

We're going to have a standup here because Dan Hardy wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Marshall shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Marshall thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hardy's head.
Hardy slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Marshall postures up.

Hardy scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Hardy looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Hardy stuffs the takedown attempt from Marshall. Marshall gets slowly back to his feet.
Marshall blocks a head kick by Hardy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Marshall dodges the punch combination from Hardy.

Hardy shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Marshall is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Marshall escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hardy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hardy advances to half guard.
Marshall wants to control but Hardy is keeping busy.
Marshall is looking to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Flip Marshall will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Hardy lands a jab-cross combination.
Hardy is looking to clinch but Marshall is avoiding it.

Hardy fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Marshall sprawls well initially but Hardy persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Marshall tries to roll over but Hardy keeps him under control.
Marshall keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Hardy wants to take a breather but Marshall is having none of it.
Marshall is trying to get back to full guard.
Marshall is doing well to control the position and prevent Hardy from advancing to side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Hardy keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Hardy looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Marshall being controlled here, momentarily.
Hardy wants to stand but Marshall is controlling his posture from full guard.
Marshall keeping moving, preventing Hardy from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dan Hardy wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Marshall darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Hardy is trying to maintain the position but Marshall is very close to passing his half guard.
Hardy wants to improve his position but Marshall is controlling well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Marshall wants to pass to mount but Hardy is defending the position.
Dan Hardy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Marshall is looking to pass Hardy's guard but actually Hardy recovers to full guard.
Hardy bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Marshall's guard.

Hardy drops back looking for a leg! Marshall is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Marshall manages to kick Hardy off! Hardy jumps back into Marshall's guard.
Hardy wants to stand but Marshall has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Flip Marshall is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Marshall looking to control.
Marshall keeping moving, preventing Hardy from controlling successfully.
Marshall has Hardy pulled in close to control his posture.
Marshall controls Hardy momentarily but Hardy frees himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dan Hardy showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Marshall has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
