PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Slim Calhoun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leep Liio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Calhoun comes into the arena with Always Strapped blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Slim Calhoun!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Leep Liio!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Johanna Lukiainen and Roosa Järviläinen.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liio misses with a takedown

and Calhoun counters with a single leg into guard. Liio didn't expect that.
Calhoun trying to control but Liio is working from the bottom.

Liio working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Calhoun has passed into half guard!
Calhoun looks to land a strike but Liio avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Calhoun lands a couple of digs.

Calhoun seems to be looking for submissions.
Liio avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Calhoun.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Calhoun seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Calhoun trying to control from Liio's half guard. Liio has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

Liio is looking for a triangle here but Calhoun uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Calhoun in side control lands a decent elbow.

Calhoun wants to lay and pray for a moment but Liio keeps working.
Calhoun cracks Liio with a big elbow.
Calhoun will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Calhoun swings around for an armbar but Liio sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Calhoun's guard.

Liio postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Calhoun is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Liio, into his guard.

Calhoun chips away with some ground and pound.

Calhoun drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Liio dives on top into guard.
Calhoun is controlling Liio's posture.
Calhoun wants to sweep here but Liio controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slim Calhoun dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Liio has his takedown stuffed

and Calhoun counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Liio utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Calhoun stands and steps away. Liio gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Liio shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A head kick by Calhoun - that's a beauty! Liio is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Calhoun can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!
