PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Scott Floyd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Bamboni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bamboni has chosen Ice Ice Baby as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Scott Floyd had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 136.6lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Tony Bamboni acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scott Floyd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tony Bamboni!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Steve Montenegro and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Floyd with a poor takedown
and Bamboni counters with a nice kick to the body.

Bamboni has managed to clinch.
Floyd wants a takedown but no success here.
Floyd tries to pull guard but Bamboni holds him up against the cage and eventually Floyd drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scott Floyd. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A bit of stalling here from Bamboni.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Bamboni pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Bamboni lands with a kick to the temple. Floyd shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Bamboni rushes Floyd and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Floyd drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Bamboni gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Bamboni lands an elbow just above Floyd 's eye.
Bamboni landing some nice looking knees to the body.

Bamboni blocks a body shot from Floyd.

Bamboni manages to break the clinch.

Floyd rushes Bamboni and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Bamboni breaks the clinch.

Bamboni closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Floyd to the mat! Floyd manages to get full guard.
Floyd looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Bamboni puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Bamboni thows a huge punch but Floyd dodges it nicely.
Floyd is looking for a sweep. Bamboni is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Bamboni seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Floyd wants to get back to full guard.
Floyd is breathing heavily.
Bamboni looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Bamboni controlling the action here.

Floyd is trying to get back to full guard.
Bamboni is controlling the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tony Bamboni wasn't active enough on the ground.

Bamboni fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Floyd sprawls well initially but Bamboni persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Bamboni is taking a breather. Floyd says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Bamboni passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Floyd!
Bamboni takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Floyd is looking to get to half guard.
Floyd is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Bamboni has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Floyd's face.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bamboni controlling his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Bamboni dominated that round.

Bamboni closes the distance and pushes Floyd back into the cage.
Floyd can't get the takedown.
Floyd misses with a punch to the body.
Bamboni with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Floyd tries to score a body lock takedown but Bamboni shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Bamboni manages to break the clinch.

Bamboni instigates a clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bamboni has Floyd pressed against the cage.

Bamboni pulls guard successfully.

Bamboni uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Bamboni lands an elbow inside that Floyd shrugs off.


It looks like Scott Floyd has been cut.
Floyd is trying to force a seperation but Bamboni has the dominant position.
Bamboni throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Bamboni drags the fight down to the ground.
Bamboni is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bamboni stands up and beckons Floyd to join him on the feet.

Bamboni gets tackled into the cage by Floyd. Floyd maintains the clinch.

Bamboni scores a nice knee to the body.
Floyd goes for a takedown attempt but Bamboni pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scott Floyd. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bamboni gets to his feet - Floyd follows without any prompting.

Bamboni drives through and clinches with Floyd against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Bamboni breaks from the clinch.

Bamboni closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Floyd quickly recovers to half guard.
Bamboni is taking a breather. Floyd says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Tony Bamboni has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Bamboni gets the takedown into side control.
Floyd is looking for a sweep.
Bamboni taking a breather here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Bamboni has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Bamboni connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Floyd some visible discomfort.

Bamboni stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Floyd gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Bamboni to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Bamboni showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Scott Floyd's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Floyd tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Floyd shoots and misses

and Bamboni counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bamboni decides to stand up.

Bamboni takes the fight into the clinch.

Bamboni turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Bamboni manages to end up in side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bamboni is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Floyd will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Tony Bamboni has got the better of the ground game so far.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Floyd is looking for a sweep.
Floyd seems a little lost for a moment, as Bamboni dominates the positioning.

Tony Bamboni has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Bamboni fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Floyd to the ground. Bamboni is now in Floyd's guard.
Bamboni not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Bamboni makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Bamboni tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bamboni has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Well Bamboni has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
