PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gunnar Owens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rawrl Castro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gunnar Owens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rawrl Castro!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Dillan Fox and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Owens decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Castro desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Castro trying to control from the bottom.
Castro is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Castro preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Castro is trying to control but can't.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Castro wants to get back to full guard.
Castro is looking to escape.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Castro looks to land a right hand but Owens moved out of range.
Rawrl Castro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Owens crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Castro - the referee stops the clock and Owens gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Castro. Owens manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Owens shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Castro pinned against the cage. Castro gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Owens closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Castro wants to control but Owens postures up.
Owens tries to move into full mount but can't pass Castro's legs.

Owens is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Castro defends it well.
Castro has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Owens is working away from the top position though.
Owens throwing shots but Castro is blocking nicely.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Castro pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Owens is looking to clinch but Castro is avoiding it.
Owens takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Owens rushes Castro and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Owens is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
A left hand lands to the body for Castro.
Owens is breathing heavily.
Owens managing to block the knees to the body from Castro.
Castro lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Owens backwards.

Castro breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nice body kick there by Castro.
Castro lands a jab to the head.
Owens moves out of range of the strikes.

Castro throws a wild body kick that Owens sees coming a mile off.

Rawrl Castro is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Owens will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Owens closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Owens wants to control but Castro is keeping him busy.
Owens tries to pass the half guard into mount. Castro knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Owens is working for a kimura but Castro is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Castro is looking to control Owens's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Castro avoid being mounted?

Castro makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Owens manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Castro manages to get himself to full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Castro misses the shot to the body.
Castro takes a swing at Owens's ribcage but misses.
Castro fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Owens.
Castro misses with an uppercut.
Owens closes this distance looking for a takedown but Castro circles away.

Owens blocks a low kick nicely.
Owens throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Castro's waist but Castro gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Owens off to one side.
Castro lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Owens is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Castro doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Owens.

Castro tries to lock up and control but Owens gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Owens feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Owens is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Castro is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Castro has escaped and now he's on top!

Owens had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Castro is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Owens Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Castro's back instead.

Castro really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of Owens's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Owens is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Castro is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Owens is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Castro has escaped the position, nice work there.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Rawrl Castro.
I think Castro has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
