PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Vegas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikko Ralcha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vegas's entrance music is Don't Stop The Rock by Freestyle. A fine choice. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Johnny Vegas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mikko Ralcha!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vegas throws a body punch but Ralcha moves out of range.
Vegas throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Vegas throws a body kick the misses
and Ralcha connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Vegas fails with a takedown attempt.
Vegas misses the shot to the body.
Ralcha avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A head kick misses from Ralcha.
Ralcha tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Vegas manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vegas misses with a hook to the body
and Ralcha counters with a head kick. That will keep Vegas thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Ralcha pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ralcha is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Ralcha shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Vegas counters with a shoot takedown. Ralcha fights it but they end up in guard.

Ralcha utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Ralcha keeping moving, preventing Vegas from controlling successfully.

Vegas stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Ralcha sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Ralcha shoots in but Vegas avoids the takedown attempt easily.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ralcha enables Vegas to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ralcha manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Vegas working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ralcha keeping moving, preventing Vegas from controlling successfully.

Vegas drops back looking for a leg! Ralcha is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ralcha manages to kick Vegas off! Vegas jumps back into Ralcha's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vegas scoring with some ground and pound.
Vegas loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Vegas wants to control from the top but Ralcha keeps moving.
Ralcha wants to get back to his feet but Vegas is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Vegas stands and throws Ralcha's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ralcha takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Ralcha is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Vegas is chipping away with strikes.

Vegas tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vegas has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Vegas tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Check out the look on Vegas's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Ralcha tries to improve position but can't.
Vegas cracks Ralcha with a big elbow.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Vegas working the ground and pound.
Ralcha looks gassed!

Vegas swings around for an armbar but Ralcha sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Vegas's guard.

Vegas pushes Ralcha off and scrambles back to his feet.
Vegas misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ralcha.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vegas ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ralcha moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Vegas dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Ralcha misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Vegas shoots in but Ralcha avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Vegas scores with a one two! Ralcha had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Vegas scores with a shot to the body.
The fight stays on the outside here - Ralcha looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Johnny Vegas is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Vegas drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Vegas not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Vegas in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Vegas's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Vegas stands up and waves to Ralcha to follow him.
Vegas throws a nice outside leg kick.
Vegas fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Ralcha on the side of the head.
Vegas lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Ralcha at a distance.
Ralcha is breathing heavily.
Vegas throws a body punch but Ralcha moves out of range.
Vegas throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ralcha doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vegas scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Vegas is looking to wear down Ralcha with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Ralcha throws a head kick that misses.
Ralcha looks to clinch
and Vegas counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Vegas paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Vegas tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Vegas throws a big shot that misses.
Vegas avoids the head kick by Ralcha.
Vegas tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ralcha was well out of range. Poor timing from Vegas.
Vegas fails with the takedown.
Vegas throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Ralcha tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Ralcha forces Vegas back against the cage and clinches.
Vegas is looking to break free of the clinch but Ralcha has double underhooks.

Vegas's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ralcha gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Vegas shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Johnny Vegas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Vegas is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Vegas wants to control from the top but Ralcha keeps moving.

Vegas tries to free his leg and advance position but Ralcha is retaining full guard.
Vegas makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Vegas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Vegas's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Vegas trying to control but Ralcha is working from the bottom.
Vegas looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Vegas is working Ralcha over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Ralcha closes the distance but Vegas moves to the side
and Vegas counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

and Ralcha counters with a big head kick but Vegas shrugs it off.

and Vegas counters with a right hand to the body.
Ralcha takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

and Ralcha counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Vegas shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Ralcha takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Vegas avoids the attempt from Ralcha to control.
Vegas takes Ralcha's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Ralcha is in trouble.
Vegas looking to soften up his opponent with punches.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ralcha is still in real trouble! Can Vegas finish him?
Vegas lands punches and elbows.

Vegas is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Ralcha with him. Ralcha is trying to defend but Vegas has an arm under the chin now! Ralcha grimaces and is forced to tap out!
