PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Johny Atlas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wild Wes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wild Wes has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Johny Atlas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Wild Wes!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Colin Fotheringham and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wes throws a combination that misses
and Atlas connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Atlas is looking to slow Wes down with leg kicks.

Atlas shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wes's guard.
Atlas slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Wes keeping moving, preventing Atlas from controlling successfully.

Atlas is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Wes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Atlas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Atlas stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Wes swings for the body but Atlas moves out of range.

Atlas moves into the clinch successfully.
Wes wants to get back to striking at distance but Atlas won't allow it.
A frustrated look appears on Wes's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Atlas breaks the clinch.

Atlas closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Atlas thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wes wants to get back to his feet.
Wes avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Atlas.
Atlas just content to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Atlas wants to take a breather but Wes manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Atlas.

Atlas thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Atlas trying to control the position from guard on top but Wes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wes wants to get back to his feet but Atlas is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Atlas looking to sit in guard and control but Wes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Atlas wants to sweep but no luck.

Atlas has his foot on Wes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wes works his way back into a safe position though.
Wes wants to stand and escape but instead Atlas has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Wes wants to get back to his feet but Atlas is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Atlas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wes swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Atlas decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Wes, up you get!
Atlas is breathing heavily.
Atlas lands with a nice body kick.
Atlas lands a leg kick that knocks Wes off balance momentarily.
Wes swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Wes tries to keep at a distance but Atlas has taken the fight into the clinch.

Atlas breaks from the clinch.
The fighters circling - Wes throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
A punch combination from Wes misses.
Wes misses with a lunging right hand
enabling Atlas to counter with a crisp jab.
Nice uppercut there from Atlas.
Atlas misses with a jab, cross combination.
Wes misses with a wild combination.
Wes misses with a combination
and Atlas counters with a good low kick that Wes was not able to check.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johny Atlas dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Wes tries to bum rush Atlas with a series of wild strikes but Atlas uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Atlas lands with a nice combination. Wes backs away looking to recover.
Wes misses with a head kick.

Atlas closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Atlas jumps guard.
Wes trying to stand up but can't free himself from Atlas's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Atlas is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Atlas trying to control from half guard but Wes is working away.
Wes is trying to stand up here but Atlas is controlling him well.
Wes is breathing heavily.

Atlas missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Atlas is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Wes to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Atlas looking to sit in guard and control but Wes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Atlas is trying to control the position but Wes postures up.
Wes is looking to stand up but Atlas won't let him.

Atlas is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Wes would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Atlas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Wes tries to stand but Atlas is controlling from the bottom.

Wes jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Jab, jab by Wes - just one landing.

Atlas closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Atlas is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Wes sees it coming and defends easily.
Wes looks like he's trying to stand up.
Atlas wants to pass to mount but Wes is defending the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Atlas is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Wes defends it well.

Atlas is keen to just control but Wes is a slippery customer.

Atlas is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Wes sees it coming and defends easily.

Wes kicks Atlas off and gets back to his feet.
Sloppy strikes from Wes. Those never looked like landing.
Wes is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Atlas.
Wes looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Wes works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Wes misses with a jab, cross combination.
Atlas fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Atlas attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Atlas looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Wes lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Atlas circles away quickly and effectively.

Atlas feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Johny Atlas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Atlas accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Atlas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wes swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Wes is looking to stand up but Atlas isn't so interested in that idea.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Atlas pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wes is keeping the position for now.
Wes wants to stand up but Atlas is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Atlas throws a right hand that misses
and Wes makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Atlas really felt that one!
Johny Atlas is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wes throws a hook but Atlas avoids it easily.
Some bone on bone action there as Atlas checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Wes throws a series of punches but Atlas avoids them all with ease.
Atlas slips a jab and a cross from Wes.

Atlas won't allow Wes to get back to his feet.
Atlas sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Wes's guard.
Atlas throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Atlas connects with a nice short shot to Wes's temple.
Wes looks like he's trying to stand up.
Atlas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Wild Wes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Johny Atlas is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Atlas passes to full mount!

Well Atlas has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
