The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shuktov tries to clinch up
and Hughes connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

It looks like Ivan Shuktov has been cut.
Shuktov is looking to clinch but Hughes is avoiding it.
Shuktov shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Shuktov takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Hughes tries to sprawl but Shuktov drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Hughes has Shuktov pulled in close to control his posture.

Shuktov gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Shuktov is fighting off a takedown attempt but Hughes is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Shuktov to the mat. Shuktov regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Hughes seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Hughes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shuktov swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hughes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hughes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Shuktov wants to sweep but no luck.
Hughes prevents Shuktov from getting back to his feet.
Shuktov is breathing heavily.

Shuktov tries to keep at a distance but Hughes has taken the fight into the clinch.

Shuktov's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Hughes has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Hughes lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Hughes throws a head kick but Shuktov moves out of range.

Shuktov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hughes is working away from the top position though.

Hughes is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Shuktov looks calm but he's in trouble here. Hughes gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Shuktov is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Hughes lets go of the hold and Shuktov can pop his arm back in it's socket.
