PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sho Fukamachi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eino Nappi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Fukamachi might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Genki Sudo world order mindshift. Nappi has chosen O Fortuna as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Eino Nappi enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sho Fukamachi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Eino Nappi!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nappi throws a head kick that misses.
Nappi lands a nice looking kick to the body. Fukamachi takes a step back to recover.

Nappi decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Nappi trying to control the pace.

Nappi is looking for a kimura but Fukamachi is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Nappi to get the leverage.
Fukamachi is trying to get back to full guard.
Nappi looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Nappi is trying to control. Fukamachi wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Nappi tries to stand but can't do so whilst Fukamachi controls his leg.
Nappi is keen to just control but Fukamachi is a slippery customer.
Nappi is pressing down on Fukamachi's thigh, looking to free his foot. Fukamachi is holding on for now.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Nappi is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Nappi with the ground and pound but Fukamachi uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Nappi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Eino Nappi has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Fukamachi doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Nappi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Fukamachi gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Nappi counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Nappi throwing shots but Fukamachi is blocking nicely.
Nappi not doing much here.

Nappi is looking to advance position but Fukamachi won't allow it.

Nappi is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fukamachi is just riding it out for now. Nappi eventually gives up the hold.

Nappi is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Fukamachi defends it well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Nappi is stalling here. Fukamachi is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Nappi seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Fukamachi has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Nappi is not content to let Fukamachi control the position.
An elbow from Fukamachi crashes against the mat.
Nappi tries to bench press Fukamachi off him but Fukamachi keeps the position.
Nappi is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Fukamachi has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Fukamachi misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Fukamachi cracks Nappi with a big right hand but Nappi just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Fukamachi looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Nappi is avoiding damage well.
Nappi manages to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eino Nappi dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Nappi clinches up with Fukamachi and pushes him back against the cage.
Fukamachi is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Nappi gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Fukamachi has Nappi pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Nappi manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Nappi is pressed up against the cage. Fukamachi has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Nappi down to the mat. Nappi avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sho Fukamachi. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Fukamachi gets tackled into the cage by Nappi. Nappi maintains the clinch.
Nappi misses with a knee strike.
Fukamachi goes for a takedown attempt but Nappi pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Fukamachi moves into the clinch successfully.
Fukamachi tries for a takedown. No joy.
Nappi lands a hook that snaps the head of Fukamachi backwards.
Nappi connects with a nasty looking knee right to Fukamachi's face.
Nappi misses with a knee strike.
Nappi with a knee to the head.

Fukamachi doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Nappi counters with a single leg into guard. Fukamachi didn't expect that.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nappi trying to control but Fukamachi is working from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nappi has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Fukamachi is proving hard to escape from.
Nappi wants to control from the top but Fukamachi keeps moving.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Fukamachi has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Nappi.
Nappi tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

and Nappi counters with a good low kick that Fukamachi was not able to check.

Fukamachi instigates a clinch.

Nappi breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Fukamachi gets caught flat footed, as Nappi shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Nappi has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Fukamachi is proving hard to escape from.

Nappi is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Nappi drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Nappi has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Fukamachi tries for a takedown but Nappi circles away easily
and Nappi counters with a nice leg kick.

Nappi closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Nappi is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Nappi escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Nappi moves into range and clinches up with Fukamachi.

Fukamachi tries for a takedown. No joy.
The referee calls for Nappi to work.
Fukamachi takes a knee right on the jaw!
Nappi avoiding damage as Fukamachi throws knees to the body.

Nappi breaks the clinch.
Nappi throws a nice head kick!

Nappi moves into range and clinches up with Fukamachi.
Nappi with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Nappi with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Nappi gets underhooks to prevent Fukamachi's takedown attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Nappi pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Fukamachi misses with a takedown
and Nappi counters with an inside leg kick.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Fukamachi shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Nappi counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Nappi.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eino Nappi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Fukamachi walks forward, straight into a front kick from Nappi.
Fukamachi has his takedown stuffed
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Fukamachi tries for a takedown but Nappi circles away easily
and Nappi counters with a good low kick that Fukamachi was not able to check.
Nappi fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

Nappi shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Nappi was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Nappi sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Nappi stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Fukamachi fails with the takedown

and Nappi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Fukamachi's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sho Fukamachi. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nappi sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Fukamachi's guard.

Nappi is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Nappi working Fukamachi over with strikes.
Nappi seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fukamachi does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Fukamachi trying to hold on to Nappi's head to control him but Nappi postures up.
Nappi wants to stand up but Fukamachi is controlling the position.
Nappi seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Nappi trying to control from half guard but Fukamachi is working away.
Sho Fukamachi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Nappi passes to full mount!

Nappi wants to finish this one by submission but Fukamachi is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Nappi.
Nappi mounts Fukamachi! Really nice guard pass there!
Eino Nappi is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Eino Nappi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Nappi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
