Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between DJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikio Okita (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Penn comes to the cage accompanied by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, DJ Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mikio Okita!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn has managed to clinch.
Okita tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Penn smiles and moves away.

Penn shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Okita's guard.
Okita wants to stand but Penn is controlling the position.
Okita keeping moving, preventing Penn from controlling successfully.
Okita is looking to stand up but Penn isn't so interested in that idea.

Penn wants to control from the top but Okita keeps moving.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Penn clinches.

Penn is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Okita gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Okita drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Penn gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Okita gets underhooks to prevent Penn's takedown attempt.
Penn drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Okita wants a takedown but no success here.
Okita has had enough of the clinch but Penn keeps him there for the moment.

Penn wants to get back to his feet.
Okita wants to control but Penn is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Penn wants to pass the guard but Okita is defending well.

Okita looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Okita is controlling Penn's trapped leg to prevent Penn from advancing to side control.
Okita flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Okita makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Okita.
Okita wants to sweep but no luck.

Okita looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Okita is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Okita working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Penn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Penn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Penn decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Penn drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Okita sneaks back into half guard.

Okita is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Okita is staying active underneath Penn, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Penn postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Okita to stand up.

Okita darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Okita wants to take a breather but Penn is having none of it.
Penn is looking to improve his position.
Penn is working hard here to advance position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Penn kicks off Okita and gets to his feet.
Penn tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Okita swivels and escapes.
Okita closes this distance looking for a takedown but Penn circles away.

Okita stands and steps away. Penn gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mikio Okita will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Penn throws a right and a left that both miss.

Okita is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Penn kicks off Okita and gets to his feet.
Okita throws a quick inside leg kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Okita.

Okita prevents Penn from improving his position.
Okita moves nicely into side control.

Okita stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Penn changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Okita looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Okita is breathing heavily.

Okita prevents Penn from improving position.

Okita is not content to let Penn control the position.
Okita is trying to get back to half guard.

Penn is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Okita is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Penn wants to control but Okita is keeping him busy.

Penn decides to stand up, so the ref orders Okita to his feet.
DJ Penn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Penn doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Okita counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Penn's guard now.
Penn wants to sweep but no luck.

Okita stands and steps away. Penn gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Penn closes this distance looking for a takedown but Okita circles away.

Okita connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Penn fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Penn lands with a nice combination. Okita backs away looking to recover.Penn stuffs the takedown.
Okita on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Penn closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Okita tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

Penn looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Penn controlling the position easily from mount.
Okita working to try and regain half guard.
Penn scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Okita?
Penn lands a heavy elbow.

Okita tries to lock up and control but Penn gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Okita wants to control but Penn is having none of it.

Penn goes for an armbar but Okita turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Okita.

Penn can't keep his opponent in guard - Okita advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Penn is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Okita's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Okita's back!

Penn is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Okita has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Penn has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Okita taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Penn doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). DJ Penn!
