PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Justin Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miquel Prado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Justin Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Miquel Prado!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Ben Zyskovitsi and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Prado throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Gracie misses with a takedown attempt
and Prado counters with a straight right hand.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Prado is defending against the submission attempts here by Gracie.

Gracie is looking for a kimura but Prado is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gracie to get the leverage.
Prado trying to control from the bottom.
Prado wants to get back to full guard but Gracie has mounted him!

Gracie goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Prado turns into him and now he's in Gracie's guard.
Prado trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie looking to hit a scissor sweep but Prado is one step ahead there.

Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Prado gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Prado working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Prado tries to free his leg and advance position but Gracie is retaining full guard.
Prado trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Prado stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gracie is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Prado is aware though and is defending well.
Prado scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Gracie had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Prado defends it easily.
Prado wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Gracie looking for a sweep. Not yet Gracie, not yet.

Prado must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Prado postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Prado loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Gracie will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Prado is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Miquel Prado was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Prado misses with a hook. Gracie ducked under it nicely.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Gracie was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Prado is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Gracie fails to take his opponent's back.

Gracie working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Gracie goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Prado turns into him and now he's in Gracie's guard.
Gracie avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Prado connects with a couple of short punches.
Prado working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Gracie's head.
Prado loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gracie is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Prado is aware though and is defending well.
Prado throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Gracie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Prado can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Miquel Prado will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Prado scores with the left hand. Gracie knows he should have avoided that one.

and Prado connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Prado cracks a nice hook into Gracie's ribs.
Justin Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gracie has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Gracie there as he acknowledges the shot.
Gracie gets tagged by a hook that puts him to sleep! Prado points and yells something to his unconcious foe before strutting off. Gracie wakes up just in time to hear Prado thank his coaches in the post fight interview.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Miquel Prado!
