PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sasha Egov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dmitriy Kosarev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dmitriy Kosarev told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sasha Egov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dmitriy Kosarev!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Egov closes the distance looking to clinch
and Kosarev counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Kosarev throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Egov tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kosarev is in Egov's guard.
Kosarev must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Egov is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kosarev can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kosarev is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Egov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Kosarev is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Egov is staying active.

Egov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kosarev keeps working.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Egov throws a body kick despite being completely out of range

and Kosarev counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Egov!
Egov has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Kosarev's lack of action.
Kosarev controlling the action here.
Kosarev throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kosarev in particular looking to stall.
Kosarev working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Egov looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Kosarev postures up in Egov's guard and throws a big left but Egov blocks it.
Kosarev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Egov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Egov is working an open guard so Kosarev takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Egov is breathing heavily.
Egov doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Kosarev moves into the clinch.

Kosarev is working for takedown but Egov is calmly controlling the position for now.

Egov is fighting off a takedown attempt but Kosarev is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Egov to the mat. Egov regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Let's hope that Kosarev has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Kosarev has gone for a leg lock! Egov slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kosarev's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Egov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kosarev wants to improve his position but instead Egov has moved into half guard.
Kosarev tries to get to full guard but Egov has control of the leg.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kosarev is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Egov knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Egov is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Kosarev has just dragged him back down to the mat.

and Kosarev counters with a nice double leg into side control. Egov won't be happy with that.

Dmitriy Kosarev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Egov is staying active underneath Kosarev, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kosarev is stalling here. Egov is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Kosarev seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Egov has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Kosarev is looking for a sweep. Egov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kosarev tries to reverse the position but Egov maintains control.
Egov with shots to the head and body - Kosarev looks very uncomfortable down there.
Kosarev is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Kosarev wants to hold on but Egov pushes him away.
Kosarev tries to improve his position but instead Egov has taken his back!
Kosarev tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Egov wants to control the pace but Kosarev is squirming around nicely.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Dmitriy Kosarev is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well Kosarev has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
