PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Turchin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ilya Orlov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ivan Turchin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ilya Orlov!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Orlov tries to clinch up
and Orlov takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Turchin misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Orlov is looking to clinch but Turchin is avoiding it.

and Turchin counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Orlov wants to sweep here but Turchin controlling him for the moment.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Orlov is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Turchin's half guard.

Orlov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Turchin keeps working.
Orlov is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Turchin is refusing to be controlled, as Orlov sits in half guard.
Orlov thows a huge punch but Turchin dodges it nicely.
Turchin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Orlov is working away from the top position though.

Orlov is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Turchin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Orlov.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ivan Turchin wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Orlov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Orlov showed some decent athleticism there.
Orlov tries to stand and escape but Turchin is controlling the position.

That was a close round but I would say that Ivan Turchin will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Orlov pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

so Turchin counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Turchin is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Orlov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Turchin is one step ahead there.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Turchin content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Orlov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Turchin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Orlov looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Turchin pushes down on Orlov's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Turchin in particular looking to stall.

Orlov wants to sweep but Turchin has passed to side control!
Orlov tries to improve position but can't.
Turchin looks up at the clock and then as Orlov takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Turchin smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Turchin passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Orlov!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Turchin is looking to work his way around to Orlov's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Orlov tries to reverse the position but Turchin maintains control.
Orlov wants to hold on but Turchin pushes him away.
Turchin breaks from Orlov's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Turchin trying to control but Orlov is having none of it.
Orlov keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ivan Turchin dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Orlov makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Orlov.
Orlov lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Turchin!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Turchin tries to lock up and control but Orlov gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Orlov manages to capitalize on a mistake by Turchin to take his back!

Ilya Orlov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Turchin has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
