Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eldar Arbuhmedov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dimitri Makhnov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eldar Arbuhmedov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dimitri Makhnov!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Fedor Mirinova and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Arbuhmedov misses with a wild combination.
Arbuhmedov tries for a takedown but Makhnov circles away easily

and Makhnov counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Makhnov.
Arbuhmedov jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Makhnov walks away with a smile on his face. Arbuhmedov gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Makhnov lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Arbuhmedov circles away quickly and effectively.
Dimitri Makhnov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Makhnov lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

and Makhnov takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Makhnov forces Arbuhmedov back against the cage and clinches.

Makhnov is fighting off a takedown attempt but Arbuhmedov is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Makhnov to the mat. Makhnov regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Arbuhmedov could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Arbuhmedov drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Makhnov dives on top into guard.
Makhnov is pushing down on Arbuhmedov's leg trying to pass to half guard. Arbuhmedov is fighting to maintain full guard but Makhnov has managed to sneak the leg through.

Makhnov is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Makhnov wants to work for an arm triangle but Arbuhmedov is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Makhnov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Arbuhmedov has his foot on Makhnov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Makhnov works his way back into a safe position though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Makhnov thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Makhnov wants to control from the top but Arbuhmedov keeps moving.

Makhnov seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Makhnov looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Arbuhmedov with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Makhnov drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Arbuhmedov dives on top into guard.

Arbuhmedov drops back, looking for a kneebar! Makhnov looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Makhnov looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Makhnov!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Makhnov rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Arbuhmedov moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

so Makhnov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Makhnov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Arbuhmedov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Makhnov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Arbuhmedov had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Makhnov defends it easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Makhnov is trying to control. Arbuhmedov wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Makhnov is stalling here. Arbuhmedov is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Makhnov seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Arbuhmedov has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Dimitri Makhnov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Makhnov is pressed up against the cage. Arbuhmedov has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Makhnov down to the mat. Makhnov avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Makhnov lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Dimitri Makhnov is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Eldar Arbuhmedov is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Makhnov counters with a nice double leg into side control. Arbuhmedov won't be happy with that.
Makhnov remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Well Makhnov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
