PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lord Vader (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sumopainija Hokanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vader comes into the arena with Same Ol' Road blaring out of the sound system. Sumopainija Hokanen told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
19 - 6 - 2, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lord Vader!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sumopainija Hokanen!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Sergei Dronov and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hokanen drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Vader defending against the ground and pound.
Vader wants to control but Hokanen postures up.
Hokanen tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Vader is looking for a sweep.
The ground and pound from Hokanen seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Vader gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Hokanen passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Vader!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hokanen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hokanen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Hokanen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vader swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hokanen thows a big elbow that misses.
Hokanen throws a strike but Vader rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Vader will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Vader is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Vader wants to sweep here but Hokanen controlling him for the moment.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Hokanen tries to free his leg and advance position but Vader is retaining full guard.

Sumopainija Hokanen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Vader does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Hokanen is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Vader rather than just go for the knockout.

Hokanen shoots in and bounces Vader off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Sumopainija Hokanen is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Vader has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
