PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Neil Tog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julio Marquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Neil Tog!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Julio Marquez!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Sam Margolis and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tog tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Marquez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A looping hook to the body misses from Tog. Marquez does a little dance to reset his feet.
Tog darts in trying to clinch
and Marquez connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Tog misses with a takedown attempt
and Marquez counters with a stiff right hand.
Marquez fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
A combination from Marquez does no damage.
Marquez cracks a nice hook into Tog's ribs.
Tog has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Tog counters with a shoot takedown. Marquez fights it but they end up in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Tog is breathing heavily.
Tog is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Marquez is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Marquez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tog can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Marquez doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Tog wants to stand but Marquez is controlling his posture from full guard.

Marquez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tog doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tog manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Marquez is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Tog wanted to stand there but Marquez had control of the position.
Tog wants to pass the guard but Marquez is keeping the position.
Marquez seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Marquez can do anything to dispel that myth.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Marquez lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Tog!
Marquez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tog. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Tog could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Marquez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Marquez sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Tog tries to lock up and control but Marquez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tog defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Marquez.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Marquez controlling the pace for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Julio Marquez dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Tog shoots for a takedown but Marquez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Marquez's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Marquez duly obliges.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Tog stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tog wants it to stay on the feet.

Tog closes the distance and clinches up with Marquez, looking for a takedown. Tog pushes Marquez against the cage but Marquez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Marquez throws a combination. Tog tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Tog is pressed up against the cage. Marquez has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Tog down to the mat. Tog avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Tog throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Neil Tog is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Marquez scores with a one two! Tog had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Marquez scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Tog tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Marquez paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Marquez has closed the distance and engaged Tog in a clinch.

Marquez tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Tog just stands there and leans against the cage.
Marquez keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Tog's efforts to push away.
Tog jumps guard but Marquez stands there with Tog around his waist. Tog gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Tog gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Marquez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tog swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Marquez would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Julio Marquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Marquez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tog manages to avoid it.
Tog dives in and grabs Marquez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Marquez pushes down on Tog's head and hops out.
No joy there for Marquez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Tog shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Marquez eats them both and turns towards Tog to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Tog looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Marquez is fending him off so far but Tog persists. Nope, Marquez circles away and we're back to standing.

Neil Tog has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Julio Marquez is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Julio Marquez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Marquez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
