PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Toby Mack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Toby Mack!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice combination there by White.
White fails in his attempt to clinch.

Mack has closed the distance and engaged White in a clinch.

White manages to break the clinch.

Mack throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. White tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mack is in White's guard.
Mack distracts White with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Mack wants to control from the top but White keeps moving.
Mack works over White with some ground and pound from guard.

Mack drops back, looking for a kneebar! White looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. White looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from White!
Mack manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
White throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
White thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mack's head.
White not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
White missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
White not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Mack is trying to maintain the position but White is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
White is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Mack manages to get to full guard.

Mack pushes White off and gets back to his feet.
A combination from White does no damage.
White throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Mack's head.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by White.
Mack tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. White manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Mack tries to score a power double leg takedown but White sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mack somewhat.

White misses with a takedown

and Mack counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
White wants to improve his position but Mack is controlling well.
Mack tries to pass the half guard into mount. White knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
White is trying to maintain the position but Mack is very close to passing his half guard.

Nice strikes from Mack there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

White is defending against the submission attempts here by Mack.

Mack gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Mack fails with an attempt to clinch.

Mack moves into the clinch.
White wants a takedown.
White fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John White. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mack has picked White up - he's going for a ride! Mack dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Mack thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mack keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
White avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Mack.
Mack looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mack lands a nice short elbow.
White is breathing heavily.
Mack thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed White's head.
Mack prevents White from improving his position.
Mack landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
White wants to control but Mack is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Mack trying to control from half guard but White is working away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
White has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mack is working away from the top position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Toby Mack dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Mack shoots and misses

and White counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Mack's guard now.
Toby Mack has got the better of the ground game so far.

Mack has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but White can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
White trying to control the position from guard on top but Mack is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

White decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Mack gets tackled into the cage by White. White maintains the clinch.
A left hand lands to the body for Mack.
Mack tries to pull guard but White holds him up against the cage and eventually Mack drops back down to his feet.
White is pressed up against the cage. Mack has hold of a leg and is looking to drag White down to the mat. White avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
John White has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Toby Mack.
White ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mack moves away.

Mack shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mack looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks White with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
White is not content to let Mack control the position.
White pushes Mack off looking to stand but Mack dives back in and keeps control.

Mack thows a huge punch but White dodges it nicely.
Mack throwing shots but White is blocking nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mack wants to take a breather but White is having none of it.

White has hold of Mack's hands but Mack slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Mack takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Mack content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
White wants to improve his position but Mack is controlling well.
Mack looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mack is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Mack lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Mack with shots to the head and body - White looks very uncomfortable down there.
Mack has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

White is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Mack has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of White's face.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Mack cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Mack wants to control the pace but White is squirming around nicely.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Toby Mack showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



White gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mack to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Mack trying to control but White is working from the bottom.
Mack trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Mack won't allow White to get back to his feet.
Mack postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Mack drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mack jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Mack with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

White trying to control the position.
Mack scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Mack throws a big right hand that misses.
White keeping moving, preventing Mack from controlling successfully.

Mack drops back looking for a leg! White is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and White manages to kick Mack off! Mack jumps back into White's guard.
Mack has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
White is trying to keep Mack in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mack cracks White with a solid left hand.
Mack content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Mack engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Mack trying to control but White is working from the bottom.
Mack stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. White swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Toby Mack has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
White throws a series of strikes that have Mack backpedaling.
Mack takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Mack looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Mack sitting in guard here, content to control.
Mack lands a couple of elbows.
White trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

White escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mack gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mack is in close to White's body, working some short punches and elbows.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mack stands and throws White's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Mack lands some shots froms side control.
White takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Toby Mack is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

White is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mack has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

And that's the end of the fight!
Toby Mack comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Mack winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
