PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Raymond Duvernay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ross has chosen Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Raymond Duvernay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shane Ross!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Jonathan Paton and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ross lands a nice shot to the body.
Ross thows a body shot but no joy.
Ross goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Ross throws out a powerful jab.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Duvernay looks to clinch

and Ross counters with a single leg into guard. Duvernay didn't expect that.
Duvernay working a defensive guard but Ross passes into half guard.
Ross is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Duvernay has hold of Ross's hands but Ross slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Ross has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ross throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Ross missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Duvernay gets full guard.
Ross throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Ross throws a strike but Duvernay rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Duvernay has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Duvernay is fighting to break Ross's control of his arms but Ross is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Duvernay tries to stand but Ross is controlling from the bottom.
Duvernay might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ross is on top in guard.

Ross trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Ross not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Ross missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Ross throws a big right hand that misses.
Duvernay is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Ross working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Ross with a flurry of punches that miss.
Duvernay knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ross on the ground.

Ross pushing down on Duvernay's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Ross scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Ross not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Ross lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Duvernay is trying to maintain the position but Ross is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ross winds up and cracks Duvernay with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Duvernay blocking the ground and pound attempt from Ross.
Ross is thwarting Duvernay's attempts to control the position.
Ross working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Ross seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Ross is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ross in particular looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ross lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Ross content to control rather than advance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ross throwing shots but Duvernay is blocking nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shane Ross dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Duvernay tries to clinch

and Ross counters with a takedown into side control.
Duvernay tries to bench press Ross off him but Ross keeps the position.
Ross lands an elbow.
Ross scores with punches from side control.
Duvernay is not content to let Ross control the position.
Ross working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Duvernay takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ross lands a nice short elbow.
Ross not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Ross not doing much here.

Ross throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Ross wants to work for an arm triangle but Duvernay is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ross thows a huge punch but Duvernay dodges it nicely.

Ross is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Duvernay sees it coming and defends easily.
Duvernay gets back to full guard.
Ross throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Duvernay works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Ross working some strikes from top position.
Duvernay preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Duvernay avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Ross sitting in guard here, content to control.

Ross has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Ross works over Duvernay with some ground and pound from guard.

Duvernay preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Ross postures up and lands a big shot to Duvernay's brow.
Duvernay trying to keep a closed guard but Ross is proving a slippery customer.

Ross drops back looking for a leg! Duvernay is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Duvernay manages to kick Ross off! Ross jumps back into Duvernay's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Duvernay keeping full guard, as Ross tries to pass.
Ross trying to control the position from guard on top but Duvernay is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ross accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Shane Ross has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shane Ross showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Ross misses with a hook
and Duvernay counters with a nice body kick.
Ross connects with an inside leg kick.
Duvernay throws a lazy head kick
and Ross counters with a good low kick that Duvernay was not able to check.
Ross shoots for a double leg takedown but Duvernay sprawls well. He's pushed Ross's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Duvernay misses the body punch

and Ross decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Duvernay's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ross content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Duvernay lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Ross!
Ross is looking to improve his position but Duvernay isn't that keen on the idea.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ross is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Ross sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Ross is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Duvernay's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Duvernay's back!
Ross throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Ross gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Ross lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Ross.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ross throwing damaging strikes from the back! Duvernay could be in trouble here!
Ross lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.
Ross is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Duvernay up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Oooh a big shot gets through from Ross. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

Ross is cranking Duvernay's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Duvernay! He's tightened the choke and Duvernay is tapping out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:45 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Shane Ross!
