PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Justus Sheehan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elliot Spenser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sheehan kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Worldwide Choppers. Spenser comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Sonne by Rammstein kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Justus Sheehan could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Elliot Spenser's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Justus Sheehan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Elliot Spenser!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Sheehan.
Sheehan fails to land the takedown.
Sheehan darts in trying to clinch
enabling Spenser to counter with a crisp jab.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Spenser!
Spenser stalks Sheehan and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Sheehan's face. Sheehan staggers backwards, shaken.
Spenser tries to bum rush Sheehan with a series of wild strikes but Sheehan uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Spenser throws a left and a right that both miss

and Sheehan decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Spenser's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Spenser manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sheehan manages to get himself to full guard.
Spenser is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Spenser throws and elbow that misses. Sheehan uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Spenser's guard. Nice move by Sheehan!
Sheehan throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Spenser works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Sheehan tries to free his leg and advance position but Spenser is retaining full guard.
Spenser wants to stand but Sheehan is controlling the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Sheehan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Sheehan wants to sweep but no luck.

Sheehan throws his legs up looking for a submission but Spenser uses it to pass to side control.
Spenser scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Sheehan to see if he's OK.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Sheehan is trying to get back to half guard.
Spenser has knee on belly momentarily but Sheehan bucks him off and regains half guard.
Spenser is looking to take a break and control but Sheehan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Spenser content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Sheehan is looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Spenser looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Spenser slows the pace down in half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sheehan gets back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Elliot Spenser dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Spenser throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sheehan.
Sheehan uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

and Sheehan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Elliot Spenser seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Spenser throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

so Sheehan counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Spenser manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Spenser moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Sheehan has worked his arm free - good work by Sheehan!
Sheehan is trying to control Spenser's posture but Spenser avoids it.

Spenser wants to take a breather but Sheehan is having none of it.
Spenser prevents Sheehan from standing back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sheehan wants to control but Spenser is keeping busy.
Sheehan gets back to full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Spenser's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Spenser trying to control but Sheehan is working from the bottom.
Spenser is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Sheehan is looking to sweep but instead, Spenser has passed into half guard.
Spenser tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sheehan knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Sheehan is trying to get back to full guard.
Sheehan is controlling Spenser's trapped leg to prevent Spenser from advancing to side control.
Sheehan gets full guard.
Sheehan lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Spenser!
Justus Sheehan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sheehan throwing strikes here but Spenser is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Sheehan looking to ground and pound but Spenser is blocking nicely.

Sheehan goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Spenser is on top in guard.
Spenser throws a big right hand that misses.
Spenser wants to control from the top but Sheehan keeps moving.
Sheehan is trying to control the position from the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Sheehan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Spenser gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Spenser is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Sheehan is trying to keep Spenser in close.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Spenser accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Spenser throws out a loose jab but Sheehan uses good head movement to avoid it.
Spenser looks to throw the jab but Sheehan is out of range.
Spenser misses with a series of wild punches.
Spenser loads up on a big right hand but Sheehan slips the punch.
Sheehan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Spenser swivels and escapes.
A punch lands to the side of Sheehan 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Spenser connects with a body shot that sends Sheehan's belly button to the back.
Sheehan has his takedown stuffed
and Spenser counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Sheehan darts in trying to clinch
and Spenser counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Spenser swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Spenser throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Sheehan counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Spenser!
Spenser tries to lock up and control but Sheehan gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Spenser is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Spenser sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Sheehan thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Spenser makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Spenser.
Sheehan trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Sheehan is looking to work some ground and pound but Spenser has wrist control.
Spenser controls Sheehan momentarily but Sheehan frees himself.
Sheehan throws a strike but Spenser rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Spenser trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Sheehan is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Spenser defends well.
Sheehan keeping moving, preventing Spenser from controlling successfully.

Spenser slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Elliot Spenser wasn't active enough on the ground.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Justus Sheehan.
I think Sheehan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
