PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Klem Hopper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jan Szczevnikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Klem Hopper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Jan Szczevnikov!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Atkins and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Szczevnikov shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Hopper counters by clinching up.
Szczevnikov is working for takedown but Hopper is calmly controlling the position for now.
Hopper misses with an elbow over the top.
Szczevnikov has Hopper pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hopper manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Klem Hopper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jan Szczevnikov.
Szczevnikov looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Szczevnikov is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Hopper is trying to break the clinch but Szczevnikov is controlling him.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Hopper throws a punch but it's blocked by Szczevnikov.
Hopper prevents a takedown attempt there.
Szczevnikov has Hopper pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hopper manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Szczevnikov has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hopper avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Hopper working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Hopper wants to get back to striking at distance but Szczevnikov won't allow it.
Hopper looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Hopper escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
No joy there for Hopper, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Hopper fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Szczevnikov on the side of the head.

and Hopper counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

and Hopper counters with a nice right hand that sends Szczevnikov toppling to the canvas! Szczevnikov scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Hopper finish him?!


Szczevnikov is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hopper fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Szczevnikov looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Szczevnikov is still on wobbly legs! Can Hopper finish him?
Hopper comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Szczevnikov seems to have recovered his senses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hopper digs a good body shot into Szczevnikov's ribs.

Hopper moves into the clinch.
Szczevnikov is trying desperately to land a takedown but Hopper is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Szczevnikov.
Hopper digs a right hand into Szczevnikov's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Szczevnikov's gas tank.
Hopper scores with a hook to the body.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Hopper.

Hopper breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A combination from Hopper does no damage.
Szczevnikov misses with a takedown attempt

and Hopper counters with a crisp one two that drops Szczevnikov! Hopper thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Szczevnikov to his feet! Szczevnikov is in big trouble!

Hopper lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Szczevnikov circles away quickly and effectively.
Hopper fails with an attempt to clinch.

and Hopper counters with a nice body shot.
Szczevnikov takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Hopper jabs Szczevnikov right on the nose. Szczevnikov blinks but takes it well.
Hopper swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Klem Hopper is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Hopper!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hopper cracks Szczevnikov with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Szczevnikov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hopper tries to avoid it but Szczevnikov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hopper to the ground. Hopper escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hopper misses with the combination.
Szczevnikov looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Hopper lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Szczevnikov shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hopper as he avoids it easily.
Hopper takes a swing at Szczevnikov's ribcage but misses.
Szczevnikov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hopper pinned against the cage. Hopper gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Hopper counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Szczevnikov shoots in but Hopper avoids the takedown attempt easily.

and Hopper counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Szczevnikov is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Hopper can't fight it off and eventually Szczevnikov manages to take the fight to the floor. Hopper looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hopper is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Szczevnikov drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hopper manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Szczevnikov has Hopper in his guard.
Szczevnikov looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Hopper slips nicely into half guard.
Szczevnikov manages to get to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Szczevnikov keeping moving, preventing Hopper from controlling successfully.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Szczevnikov pulls Hopper in to control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Szczevnikov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
No luck for Szczevnikov with that takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Klem Hopper dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hopper fails with an attempt to clinch.

Hopper closes the distance and clinches.

Hopper breaks the clinch.
Hopper connects with the punch.
Szczevnikov shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hopper but Hopper pushes him off and we're back to square one.
No luck for Szczevnikov with that takedown attempt.
Hopper misses with a two punch combination.
Hopper throws an off balance right hand

and Szczevnikov counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Hopper is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Szczevnikov uses his free foot to push down on Hopper's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Hopper.

Szczevnikov is working for a guillotine from mount but Hopper frees his head quite easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hopper tries to lock up and control but Szczevnikov gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Szczevnikov is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Szczevnikov extends the arm and Hopper is forced to tap!
