PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Josh Evens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Owen Camas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Evens comes to the cage accompanied by ac dc-Back in Black. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 1, fighting out of New York, Josh Evens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Owen Camas!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Dean Styles and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Evens, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Owen Camas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Camas closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Evens quickly recovers to half guard.
Evens might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Evens is controlling Camas's trapped leg to prevent Camas from advancing to side control.
Evens is trying to stand up here but Camas is controlling him well.
Evens trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Evens is refusing to be controlled, as Camas sits in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Evens is trying to stand up here but Camas is controlling him well.

and Evens counters with a leg kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Camas. Evens does a little dance to reset his feet.

and Camas decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Evens's guard.
Camas trying to control the position from guard on top but Evens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Evens has his foot on Camas's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Camas works his way back into a safe position though.
Evens trying to keep a closed guard but Camas is proving a slippery customer.
Camas lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Camas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Evens swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Evens is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Evens looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Camas passes into side control.
Evens bucks up and tries to throw Camas off but instead Camas has got his back!

Camas is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Evens manages to scramble and ends up in full guard, under a barage of strikes . Great composure from Evens.

Camas gets to his feet. Evens looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Evens darts in and clinches Camas up against the cage.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Evens.

Evens breaks from the clinch.
Evens scores with the left hand. Camas knows he should have avoided that one.
Evens throws a right and a left that Camas avoids nicely.
Evens looks to throw the jab but Camas is out of range.
Camas looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Evens is fending him off so far but Camas persists. Nope, Evens circles away and we're back to standing.
Evens misses with a two punch combination.
Camas moves out of range of the strikes.
Camas looks to clinch
and Evens counters with a left and a right that stings Camas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Owen Camas dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Evens leaves Camas with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Camas moves forwards but Evens connects with a nice, crisp jab.


It looks like Owen Camas has been cut.
Camas blocks the body kick.

and Camas decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Evens's guard.

Camas avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Evens is looking to stand back up but Camas counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Evens.
Evens looks like he's trying to stand up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Camas keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Camas stands up out of the half guard.
Evens throws a push kick but Camas slaps the foot to one side.
Evens rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Camas moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Camas in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Evens wants to get back to his feet but Camas is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Evens has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Camas can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Evens working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Camas doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Camas manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Camas stands up from Evens's guard - Camas perhaps looking for a knockout.
Camas tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Evens paws at him with a jab and circles away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Owen Camas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Evens. Camas shrugs it off though.
Camas steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Evens. That one must have hurt.

Evens digs a good body shot into Camas's ribs.
Evens pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Camas back to the cage. Evens follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Camas closes this distance looking for a takedown but Evens circles away.

Evens thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Camas if he has to take too many more of those.
Camas has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Evens.

Josh Evens has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Owen Camas.

Camas tries to score a power double leg takedown but Evens sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Camas somewhat.
