Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rodrigo Verson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pauly D (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). D has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Verson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pauly D!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Verson throws a right hand that misses
and D counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
D uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Verson.

Verson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming D to the mat! D manages to get full guard.
D looks gassed!
Verson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
D avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Verson wants to control from the top but D keeps moving.
Verson showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Verson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Rodrigo Verson just wasn't active enough.

Verson is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. D can't fight it off and eventually Verson manages to take the fight to the floor. D looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Verson drops back looking for a leg! D is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and D manages to kick Verson off! Verson jumps back into D's guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Verson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. D swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Verson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Verson wants to control from the top but D keeps moving.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Verson passes easily into side control. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Verson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. D is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Verson drives through and clinches with D against the cage.
D is breathing heavily.
Verson scores with a shot to the side of D's head.
Verson swings wildly with an uppercut but D uses good head movement to avoid it.
D misses with a knee to the head.

Verson tries to score a body lock takedown but D shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Verson has clasped his hands together around D's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Verson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Verson tries to advance to mount but D denies him.
Verson passes to full mount! That's big trouble for D!

Verson has control of D's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and D regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Verson lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Verson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Verson has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of D's face.

D really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Verson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Verson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so D is just riding it out for now. Verson eventually gives up the hold.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Verson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rodrigo Verson wasn't doing enough on the ground.

D tries to work over Verson's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Verson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but D moves away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Rodrigo Verson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Verson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Well, if Verson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Pauly D has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Verson has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
