PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Chan Sung Jung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hakim Hamsho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hamsho has chosen Jump Around as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chan Sung Jung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hakim Hamsho!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, William Peck and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jung throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Hamsho counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Jung throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hamsho was covering up waiting for the punch and Jung finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Jung trying to control but Hamsho is working from the bottom.
Hamsho can't keep his opponent in guard - Jung advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Jung is thwarting Hamsho's attempts to control the position.
Hamsho might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jung kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Jung is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Jung is trying to control the action in half guard but Hamsho is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Jung is pressing down on Hamsho's thigh, looking to free his foot. Hamsho is holding on for now.

Jung is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hamsho wants to get back to his feet.
Jung is stalling here. Hamsho is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Jung seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Hamsho has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Jung is looking for a sweep.
Jung can't do much from the bottom here.

Jung manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hamsho's best efforts.
Hamsho seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Hamsho thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jung's head.

Jung looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Jung wants to sweep here but Hamsho controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hamsho missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Jung pulls Hamsho in close to prevent any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Jung misses with a takedown attempt
enabling Hamsho to counter with a crisp jab.
Jung throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hamsho.
Jung walks into a stiff left hand from Hamsho.
Hamsho tries to clinch up but Jung circles away and keeps his distance.
Hamsho tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jung paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Jung shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hamsho is trying to defend but Jung finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jung thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hamsho's head.

Hamsho moves into full guard.

Hamsho wants to stand and escape but Jung is having none of it.
Jung slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Jung thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Jung controlling the position.
Jung is looking to take a break and control but Hamsho is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Jung looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Jung wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hamsho, who protects the arm well.
Hamsho is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Jung has just dragged him back down to the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jung is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hamsho is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chan Sung Jung dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Jung misses with the body kick
and Hamsho counters with an inside leg kick.
Jung misses with a leg kick.
Jung ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hamsho moves away.
Jung fails with the takedown
and Hamsho counters with a stiff right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jung tries for a takedown but Hamsho sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Chan Sung Jung is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Hamsho drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Jung regains half guard.

Jung is pressing down on Hamsho's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Jung controls Hamsho momentarily but Hamsho frees himself.

Jung is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hamsho defends well.

Hamsho got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jung has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hamsho has managed to get both his arms back between Jung's legs - danger averted.
Hamsho passes into half guard.
Hakim Hamsho has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Chan Sung Jung is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Jung has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hamsho is working away from the top position though.
Jung is controlling Hamsho's trapped leg to prevent Hamsho from advancing to side control.
Jung's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
It looks like Hamsho is going to stand back up.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Jung preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Chan Sung Jung wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Hamsho changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jung looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Jung is looking for a sweep.
Jung regains half guard.
Jung wants to improve his position but Hamsho is controlling well.
Jung is trying to control but can't.

Jung looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Hakim Hamsho comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jung has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
