PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Also Zarathustra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy Slapper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zarathustra comes to the cage accompanied by Ft. Minor - Remember The Name. Slapper has chosen beep beep i'm a jeep as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Also Zarathustra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Billy Slapper!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Felipe Paraventi and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A shot to the body from Zarathustra misses
and Slapper counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Slapper doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Zarathustra counters with a nice uppercut.
Slapper just misses with a punch to the body.
Slapper takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Slapper throws a poor cross that misses
and Zarathustra counters with a leg kick.
Zarathustra scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Slapper doesn't seem bothered though.
A head kick misses from Slapper.
Slapper throws a lazy uppercut
and Zarathustra counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
No luck for Zarathustra with that takedown attempt.
A low kick from Slapper is predictable there

and Zarathustra counters with a single leg into guard. Slapper didn't expect that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Zarathustra tries to free his leg and advance position but Slapper is retaining full guard.
Slapper wants to sweep but no luck.

Zarathustra trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Zarathustra loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Zarathustra missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Slapper wants to sweep here but Zarathustra controlling him for the moment.

Slapper is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Slapper is on top in guard.

Zarathustra is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Slapper is aware though and is defending well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Slapper forces his way into half guard.
Zarathustra wants to sweep but Slapper has passed to side control!
Slapper wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zarathustra keeps working.
Zarathustra tries to buck Slapper off but Slapper is having none of it.
Slapper tries to advance to mount but Zarathustra denies him.
Slapper trying to control the action but Zarathustra is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Slapper is putting a hurting on Zarathustra here, landing some big shots from side control.
Slapper trying to control the position but Zarathustra is working away.
Slapper taking a break here but Zarathustra is having none of it and regains half guard.
Slapper wants to control but Zarathustra is keeping him busy.
Zarathustra tries to roll over but Slapper keeps him under control.
Slapper throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Also Zarathustra dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Slapper bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Zarathustra's head backwards.
Slapper swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Zarathustra lunges at Slapper with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Slapper's hand.
Slapper throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Zarathustra connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Slapper has managed to clinch.
Zarathustra misses with a punch to the body.
Zarathustra misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Zarathustra's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Slapper fails with a takedown attempt.
Slapper is looking to clinch but Zarathustra is avoiding it.
Zarathustra stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Zarathustra wants it to stay on the feet.
Slapper tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Zarathustra manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Zarathustra misses with a body shot.
Zarathustra takes a jab right on the kisser.

and Zarathustra counters with a shoot takedown. Slapper fights it but they end up in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Zarathustra accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Slapper bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Zarathustra's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slapper wants to control from the top but Zarathustra keeps moving.

Slapper stands up over Zarathustra, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Zarathustra can't keep his opponent in guard - Slapper advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Slapper is trying to control. Zarathustra wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The fighters are battling for position here. Zarathustra manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Slapper seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Zarathustra tries to roll over but Slapper keeps him under control.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Slapper lands a nice short elbow.
Zarathustra is not content to let Slapper control the position.
Slapper works his foot free and advances to mount.
Slapper lands a big elbow.
Slapper landing strikes from the mount.
Slapper can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Zarathustra is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Billy Slapper will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Zarathustra uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Slapper.
Slapper moves in looking to clinch but Zarathustra pushes him off.
Slapper jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Zarathustra throws a front kick that sends Slapper stumbling back into the cage.
Slapper throws a head kick that misses.
Zarathustra scores with a punch to the head.
Zarathustra takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Zarathustra swings for the body but Slapper moves out of range.
Zarathustra throws a jab but it's blocked by Slapper.
Slapper is looking to clinch but Zarathustra is avoiding it.
Slapper takes a swing at Zarathustra's ribcage but misses.

Zarathustra fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Slapper sprawls well initially but Zarathustra persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Zarathustra thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Slapper is concentrating on defense, preventing Zarathustra from advancing position.
Zarathustra tries to pass the half guard into mount. Slapper knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Slapper engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Zarathustra has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Slapper doesn't defend quickly enough and Zarathustra has managed to lock this one up! Can Slapper escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Zarathustra on a fantastic submission victory.
