PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rolando Paneda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Spider (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anderson Spider told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Rolando Paneda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Anderson Spider!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Atkins and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spider throws a body punch but Paneda moves out of range.
Spider misses with the combination.
Spider throws a sloppy head kick

and Paneda counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Spider jumps guard.
Paneda will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Spider controls Paneda momentarily but Paneda frees himself.
Paneda slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Spider wants to stand and escape but Paneda is having none of it.
Paneda won't allow Spider to sweep him here.
Paneda would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Rolando Paneda just wasn't active enough.

and Paneda counters with a nice double leg into side control. Spider won't be happy with that.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Spider wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Paneda wants to stand but Spider is controlling his arm.

Spider throws Paneda to one side and escapes!
A head kick misses from Spider.
Spider throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Spider misses with a body shot.
Spider displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Paneda.
Spider looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Spider throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Paneda manages to pull guard.
Spider wants to stand but Paneda has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Spider is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Spider gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Paneda shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Spider defends it nicely.
Spider tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Paneda was well out of range. Poor timing from Spider.

Paneda avoids the head kick by Spider.
A solid leg kick lands there for Spider.
Spider lands a leg kick that knocks Paneda off balance momentarily.

Paneda drives through with a takedown into guard.
Paneda trying to control but Spider is working from the bottom.
Paneda knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Spider on the ground.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Spider manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Paneda fails with an attempt to clinch.
Spider slaps away a takedown attempt from Paneda, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rolando Paneda. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Spider rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Paneda counters with a series of strikes. Spider will be more careful next time no doubt.

Anderson Spider is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That was a close round but I would say that Rolando Paneda will probably get the nod.
That's time! Paneda's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A nice leg kick lands there from Spider.
Paneda shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Spider sprawls well. Spider wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Paneda gets slowly back to his feet.
Paneda has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Spider.
A nice inside leg kick there by Spider. That's going to slow Paneda down.
Spider displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Paneda.

Paneda rushes Spider and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Spider gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Paneda has his foot on Spider's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Spider works his way back into a safe position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Paneda wants to improve his position but instead Spider has moved into half guard.

Spider decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Paneda really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Spider bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Paneda's guard.

Spider gets to his feet. Paneda looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Spider pushes Paneda off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Spider takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Paneda will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rolando Paneda will probably get the nod.

Paneda bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Spider will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Spider is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Spider pushes a forearm under Paneda's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Paneda is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
