Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bj Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Xavier Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Xavier Rush will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bj Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Xavier Rush!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Trevor Gratis and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Rush, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rush scores with a jab to the jaw.

Penn fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Rush to the ground. Penn is now in Rush's guard.
Penn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rush swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Penn trying to control the position from guard on top but Rush is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Penn throws and elbow that misses. Rush uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Penn's guard. Nice move by Rush!
Rush cracks Penn with a solid left hand.
Penn looking to control.

Penn escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rush gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Penn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rush doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rush manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Rush missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Penn working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Rush.
Penn might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Penn has a closed guard, preventing Rush from standing up.
Penn is striking off his back. Rush thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Penn taking some punishment here, with Rush in his half guard.
Penn is trying to get back to full guard.
Rush thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Penn to regain full guard.
Penn looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Penn tries to roll over but Rush keeps him under control.

Penn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Rush lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Rush wants to stand up but Penn has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Rush missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Penn actively working from the bottom here.
Penn throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Penn is breathing heavily.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rush trying to pass the guard but Penn defending well.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Rush lands a nice short elbow.
Rush is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Penn!
Penn bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Penn prevents Rush from getting back to his feet.

Penn drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rush manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Penn has Rush in his guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rush accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Xavier Rush dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Penn shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Penn was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Penn goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Rush is on top in guard.
Rush working some strikes from top position.
Penn wants to sweep here but Rush controlling him for the moment.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Rush's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Rush stopping the sweep attempt from Penn.

Penn has his foot on Rush's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rush works his way back into a safe position though.
Rush must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Rush loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Penn looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Rush has picked Penn up and slammed him! Penn can't keep hold of the triangle and Rush manages to pass to side control!
Xavier Rush has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rush cracks Penn with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Penn is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Rush stands up from half guard.
Rush misses with a jab, cross combination.
Rush tries to bum rush Penn with a series of wild strikes but Penn uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Penn darts in and clinches Rush up against the cage.

Rush escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rush throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Rush misses with a few strikes there.
Rush looks to land a combination but Penn avoids it well.
Sloppy strikes from Rush. Those never looked like landing.
Rush loads up on a big right hand but Penn slips the punch.
Rush shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Penn as he avoids it easily.
Rush misses with a series of wild punches.
Rush is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Horrible takedown by Rush or perhaps it was just good defense by Penn which made him look bad.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Penn moves into range and clinches up with Rush.
Penn has Rush pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rush manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Penn tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rush smiles and moves away.
A combination from Rush does no damage.
Rush throws a right and a left that Penn avoids nicely.
Rush shoots in but no luck this time.
Bj Penn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Xavier Rush.

Penn closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Rush quickly recovers to half guard.

Penn is working for a kimura but Rush is defending it quite comfortably.

Penn is looking for a kimura but Rush is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Penn to get the leverage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Penn is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Rush works his way to full guard. Good work.
Rush has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Rush pushes Penn off and scrambles back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Penn on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Rush ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Rush displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.


Penn is rocked!


It looks like Bj Penn has been cut.
Penn bobbing and weaving nicely... He's ducked under a jab and ducks again but ooooooh! Rush comes at him with an uppercut from hell! Penn falls to the canvas, unconscious! This one is all over! Oh man, looking at the replay that was right on the button! Penn was out before he hit the floor!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Xavier Rush!
