PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tyler Durden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gerhard Rihmakallo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Durden comes to the cage accompanied by Five Finger Death Punch - Way of The Fist. Gerhard Rihmakallo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tyler Durden!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gerhard Rihmakallo!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Johanna Lukiainen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rihmakallo drives through with a takedown into guard.
Durden wants to sweep here but Rihmakallo controlling him for the moment.

Rihmakallo wants to control from the top but Durden keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Durden can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rihmakallo controls the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Rihmakallo shoots in and bounces Durden off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rihmakallo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Durden swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rihmakallo is looking to advance position but Durden has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Durden wants to finish this one by submission but Rihmakallo is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Durden.

Durden stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Durden throws a head kick that Rihmakallo semi-blocks.

Durden throws a body punch but Rihmakallo moves out of range.

Durden swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Rihmakallo misses with a wild body shot.

Durden shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Rihmakallo tries to hold on but Durden postures up.
Rihmakallo working to try and regain half guard.

Durden goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Rihmakallo is on top in guard.

Durden working for a triangle but Rihmakallo defends it easily.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Rihmakallo advances to half guard.

Durden trying to hold on to Rihmakallo's head to control him but Rihmakallo postures up.
Durden wants to get back to his feet.

Rihmakallo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Durden wants to get back to full guard.
Rihmakallo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Durden keeps working.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A swing and a miss from Durden.

Durden gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Durden not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rihmakallo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Rihmakallo tries to free his leg and advance position but Durden is retaining full guard.
Rihmakallo looking to sit in guard and control but Durden gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Durden would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Durden works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Rihmakallo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Durden is working away from the top position though.
Rihmakallo misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Durden not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Durden is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rihmakallo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Durden.
Durden wants to take a breather but Rihmakallo is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Durden will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Durden pushes Rihmakallo off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Rihmakallo happy to just control the position for now.
Durden is looking for a sweep.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Durden managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Rihmakallo.
You can see the frustration on Durden's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Rihmakallo is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Durden pulls his head out easily.

Durden is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Rihmakallo jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Durden is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Durden and Rihmakallo has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Durden avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Rihmakallo.

Rihmakallo decides to stand back up. Rihmakallo steps back and let's Durden get back to his feet.

Durden rushes Rihmakallo and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Durden wants to break the clinch but can't.
Durden tries for a takedown. No joy.

Durden breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Rihmakallo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gerhard Rihmakallo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Rihmakallo circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rihmakallo keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Rihmakallo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Durden's guard.

Rihmakallo stands up and waves to Durden to follow him.

and Durden counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Rihmakallo thinking.

Rihmakallo closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Rihmakallo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Durden is looking to get back to his feet here but Rihmakallo is keeping cool and he's managed to take Durden's back.
I would not like to be Durden right now.

Durden is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Rihmakallo stands and steps away. Durden gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Durden dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Rihmakallo. That did some damage!

Rihmakallo moves forwards but Durden connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Nice takedown defense from Durden. No joy for Rihmakallo on that attempt.

Durden has taken the fight to the clinch.
A head punch on the inside from Rihmakallo fails to land.
Rihmakallo tries to break the clinch but Durden is controlling the position.
Rihmakallo tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Rihmakallo has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Durden avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Tyler Durden has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gerhard Rihmakallo.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Rihmakallo circles away from the clinch attempt.
Durden lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Durden is trying to stand up here but Rihmakallo is controlling him well.
Durden is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rihmakallo's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rihmakallo's back!
Rihmakallo breaks Durden's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Durden wants to control the position but Rihmakallo says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Durden is staying active underneath Rihmakallo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Durden is looking to control Rihmakallo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Durden avoid being mounted?

Durden manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Rihmakallo drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Rihmakallo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Durden counters with a stiff right hand.
Tyler Durden has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
A thudding body kick lands there by Durden!
The fight stays on the outside here - Durden looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Durden throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Rihmakallo gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Durden is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Durden moves into range and clinches up with Rihmakallo.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rihmakallo keeps control of Durden as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Durden breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rihmakallo throws a body punch but Durden moves out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gerhard Rihmakallo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Rihmakallo winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
