PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kip Killroy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bill Ding (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bill Ding will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Kip Killroy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bill Ding!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ding gets a takedown into half guard.
Ding controlling the pace.
Ding tries to stand but can't do so whilst Killroy controls his leg.
Killroy misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Killroy controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Killroy is trying to get back to full guard.

Ding stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Killroy to get to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ding.
Killroy tries to clinch but Ding is having none of it.
A solid leg kick lands there for Killroy.

Killroy forces Ding back against the cage and clinches.
Ding managing to block the knees to the body from Killroy.

Killroy breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ding tries a head kick but it misses.

Killroy has closed the distance and engaged Ding in a clinch.
Ding trying to stall but Killroy improves his position.

Killroy lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Killroy connects with a knee to the head.
Killroy misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Ding.

Ding manages to break the clinch.
Killroy throws a series of punches but Ding moves out of range.

Killroy doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Ding counters with a three punch combo that has Killroy backing up. Killroy nods at Ding to acknowledge the strikes.
Killroy tries to clinch but Ding is having none of it.
Ding wants to clinch but Killroy slips to the side

and Killroy counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ding's guard now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Killroy stands and steps away. Ding gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Killroy clinches up with Ding and pushes him back against the cage.
Ding wants to break the clinch but can't.
Killroy trying to land knees to the body.
Ding can't break the clinch.
Ding fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Killroy breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Killroy tries to clinch there but Ding circles away.

Killroy forces Ding back against the cage and clinches.
Ding avoiding damage as Killroy throws knees to the body.
Ding slows down the pace here.
Ding tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Killroy smiles and moves away.
Kip Killroy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bill Ding.

Killroy wants to clinch but Ding slips to the side

and Ding counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ding.
Ding looking to sit in guard and control but Killroy gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Ding is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Killroy is staying active underneath Ding, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Ding working over Killroy with some ground and pound. Killroy looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Ding is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Ding is controlling the pace.
Let's hope that Ding has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Ding wants to control but Killroy is keeping him busy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Despite being in the dominant position, Bill Ding just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Killroy is looking to clinch.
Ding is looking to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kip Killroy will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Ding wants to clinch
and Killroy counters with a big head kick but Ding shrugs it off.
Ding shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Killroy counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Killroy.
Ding stalling in the clinch but Killroy improves position.

Ding breaks from the clinch.
Ding looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Killroy tries to clinch but Ding moves away

and Ding counters with a single leg into guard. Killroy didn't expect that.
Ding stops Killroy from standing up.
Killroy pulls Ding in close to his closed guard and prevents Ding from doing any damage or advancing position.
Killroy wants to get back to his feet but Ding passes into half guard.
Killroy moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Killroy had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Ding is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Killroy Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Ding's back instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Killroy is not going to allow Ding to sit and survive in this position.
Killroy is looking to finish with some ground and pound!
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Killroy.
Killroy is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Ding up.
Killroy punishes Ding with strikes from the back mount.
Killroy has Ding flattened out and is raining down punches.
Ding is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Oooh a big shot gets through from Killroy. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Killroy punishes Ding with strikes from the back mount.

Bill Ding has got the better of the ground game so far.
Killroy has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Ding.
Killroy lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.
Ding is taking damage to the body and head.

Killroy is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Ding up.
You can see the frustration on Ding's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Killroy is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Killroy is trying to stick to Ding's back but Ding is turning into Killroy. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Killroy's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Ding.

Ding makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

and Killroy counters with a nice uppercut.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kip Killroy dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Ding scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Ding not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Ding passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Killroy!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Ding cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Ding has hold of Killroy's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Killroy manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ding controlling the pace for now.

Killroy is wriggling around trying to escape.
Ding won't let Killroy get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Ding wants to control the pace but Killroy is squirming around nicely.
Ding lands a big shot there that rocks Killroy but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Ding controlling from the full mount.
Ding trying to control but Killroy is having none of it.

Ding is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Killroy has managed to escape the submission attempt.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ding prevents Killroy from getting the reversal.
Ding can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Killroy is looking to escape.
Ding in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Ding looking to control and managing it successfully.

Killroy is squirming around, avoiding Ding's attempts to control the action.
Ding cracks Killroy with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Ding controlling the pace for now.

Ding stands up from mount. Strange move.
Ding shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Killroy as he avoids it easily.
Ding wants to clinch up but Killroy keeps it at a distance.

and Ding counters with a takedown into side control.
Killroy sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Killroy is trying to stand.
Ding wants to take a breather but Killroy is having none of it.

Killroy has one foot on Ding's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Ding avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Killroy moves in looking to clinch but Ding pushes him off.
Ding shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Killroy pinned against the cage. Killroy gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Killroy closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Killroy letting Ding take a breather here.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Bill Ding has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ding tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bill Ding comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Killroy has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
