Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shinya Aoki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barack Bush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shinya Aoki has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinya Aoki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Barack Bush!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aoki shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Aoki slips a jab and a cross from Bush.
Bush is looking to clinch.
Aoki circles away from the clinch attempt

and Aoki counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Aoki is working for a submission of some sort.
Aoki keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bush is looking for a sweep. Aoki is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Aoki is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bush is just riding it out for now. Aoki eventually gives up the hold.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Shinya Aoki just wasn't active enough.

Bush gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Bush is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Shinya Aoki wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Bush tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Aoki paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Aoki fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Aoki is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

We're going to have a standup here because Shinya Aoki wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Aoki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bush tries to avoid it but Aoki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bush to the ground. Bush escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bush has his takedown stuffed

so Aoki counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Aoki seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Bush gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Aoki counters with a nice double leg into side control. Bush won't be happy with that.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shinya Aoki dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Bush doesn't manage to clinch there - Aoki circles away.
Bush tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Aoki paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Bush doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Aoki counters with a shoot takedown. Bush fights it but they end up in guard.
Bush not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Aoki postures up in Bush's guard and throws a big left but Bush blocks it.
Bush is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Aoki is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Aoki counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Aoki.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Bush striking off his back but it's not causing Aoki any problems.
Shinya Aoki overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Bush wants to get back to his feet but Aoki is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Shinya Aoki just wasn't active enough.
Bush tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Aoki manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Still in half guard, Aoki seems content to control.
Shinya Aoki is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Aoki seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bush for as long as he can get away with.

Shinya Aoki has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Bush throws a series of punches but Aoki moves out of range.

Shinya Aoki showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Aoki, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
