PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ruiner Barnett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quik Yin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Barnett comes to the cage accompanied by canceled forever. Yin is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: I Got A Feeling (lol :P). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ruiner Barnett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Quik Yin!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yin walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Barnett lands a nice leg kick that just misses Yin's sensitive parts.
Barnett really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Yin takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Yin tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Barnett was well out of range. Poor timing from Yin.
Barnett has his takedown stuffed
and Yin counters with a straight right hand.
Barnett throws a push kick but Yin slaps the foot to one side.
Barnett fails in his attempt to clinch.

Barnett shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Yin wants to sweep but no luck.

Barnett is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Barnett with a flurry of punches that miss.
Barnett will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Yin controls Barnett momentarily but Barnett frees himself.

Barnett throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Yin works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Yin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Barnett is one step ahead there.
Yin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Barnett is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are battling for position here. Barnett manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Yin looking to pass the guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Barnett seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Ruiner Barnett just wasn't active enough.
Yin tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Barnett swivels and escapes.

and Barnett decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Yin's guard.
Yin has Barnett pulled in close to control his posture.

Barnett thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Yin pulls Barnett in to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Barnett throws a strike but Yin rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Yin passes Barnett's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Barnett has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Yin is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yin content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Barnett won't allow Yin to pass to mount.
Barnett is pressing down on Yin's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Barnett has his hands on Yin's head, controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ruiner Barnett dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Barnett scores with a jab. Yin acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Barnett lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

and Yin counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Barnett has his foot on Yin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Yin works his way back into a safe position though.
Yin wants to control from the top but Barnett keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ruiner Barnett.
Barnett throws a leg kick but Yin moved away.
Barnett tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Yin walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Barnett moves in looking to clinch but Yin pushes him off.
Nice defenses there by Barnett.
Barnett is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Yin gets a clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Yin takes a knee right on the jaw!


It looks like Quik Yin has been cut.
Barnett lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Yin breaks from the clinch.
Yin shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Barnett sprawls well. Barnett wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Yin gets slowly back to his feet.
Barnett fakes the leg kick and cracks Yin in the body.
Yin checks the leg kick nicely there.
Barnett misses with a straight right.
Barnett connects with a looping right hand.
Barnett fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Yin has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Barnett.

Barnett moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Yin is breathing heavily.
Barnett connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Barnett drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Yin gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Barnett tightens his grip and picks Yin up, before dumping him to the ground. Yin manages to land in guard.

Barnett has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Yin has momentary wrist control but Barnett slips an elbow through the middle.

Barnett has gone for a leg lock! Yin slips out almost immediately though and dives into Barnett's guard.
Ruiner Barnett overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Yin stops Barnett from standing up.
Barnett not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Yin won't allow Barnett to get back to his feet.
Yin with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Yin slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Barnett misses with a takedown

so Yin counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Barnett is adopting a defensive guard.

Yin is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Barnett seems keen to control Yin's posture.
Barnett has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

We're going to have a standup here because Ruiner Barnett wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Yin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Barnett does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Barnett holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Ruiner Barnett has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Barnett motions for Yin to come forward. Barnett throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Yin throws a sloppy head kick and Barnett moves out of range easily.
Yin throws a looping overhand right but Barnett ducks down to avoid it.
Barnett shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Yin counters with a nice double leg into guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ruiner Barnett. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Quik Yin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
