PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Randy Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karrel Dlute (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Randy Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Karrel Dlute!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Eliza Hachem and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis tries to clinch up
enabling Dlute to counter with a crisp jab.
Dlute circles away from the clinch attempt

and Dlute counters with a shoot takedown. Davis fights it but they end up in guard.

Dlute thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Davis working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Dlute.

Dlute with a nice head shot there.

Dlute drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Davis dives on top into guard.
Davis wants to get up but he can't break Dlute's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Dlute holds on and takes a little breather.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Karrel Dlute hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Dlute shoots in and gets a takedown into Davis's guard.

Dlute postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dlute stands up over Davis, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Dlute wants to control from the top but Davis keeps moving.
Dlute loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Dlute trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Dlute has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Karrel Dlute.

Dlute shoots in and gets a takedown into Davis's guard.

Davis wants to stand and escape but Dlute is having none of it.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karrel Dlute dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Dlute decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Davis tries to kick Dlute off but Dlute keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Dlute content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Davis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dlute on the ground.

Dlute is looking for a kimura here.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Davis wants to get back to his feet.
Dlute not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dlute passes to side control.
Dlute misses with the ground and pound.
Dlute works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Davis is not content to let Dlute control the position.
Dlute is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Davis's shoulder. That is not cool.

Dlute tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Dlute has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Dlute has hold of Davis's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Davis seems comfortable defending it but Dlute has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Davis is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Davis is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Dlute couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:03 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Karrel Dlute!
