PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jack Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anton Wasa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wasa has chosen UK Subs - Warhead as his entrance music. Anton Wasa told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jack Black!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anton Wasa!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksandr Martynov and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wasa throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Black stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
A looping hook to the body misses from Wasa. Black does a little dance to reset his feet.
Wasa misses with a looping left.
Wasa throws a right and a left that both miss.
Wasa shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Wasa waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Black.
A jab from Wasa finds it's way through Black's defenses.
Black avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wasa swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Black misses with a right hand
and Wasa makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Wasa tries to close the distance and clinch up but Black swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Wasa throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Black counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Wasa misses with a takedown attempt - Black sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Wasa throws a leg kick but Black sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Black throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Black swings for the body but Wasa moves out of range.

so Black counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Black not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Black stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wasa swivels though and keeps the full guard.

and Wasa makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Wasa doesn't manage to clinch there - Black circles away.

Wasa connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Wasa throws out a loose jab but Black uses good head movement to avoid it.

A close round but Anton Wasa will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Black bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Black swings for the body but Wasa moves out of range.
Wasa tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Black paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Black walks into a stiff left hand from Wasa.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Wasa, as that shot connected.

and Wasa counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Black goes for a takedown attempt but Wasa pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Wasa closes the distance and clinches up with Black, looking for a takedown. Wasa pushes Black against the ropes but Black circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Black is working for a takedown up against the ropes. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Anton Wasa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Wasa must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wasa is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

A close third round but Anton Wasa just about did enough to take it.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Black takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Wasa fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Black has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

and Wasa decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Black's guard.
Jack Black has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Wasa won't allow Black to sweep him here.
Wasa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Black. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Black isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Wasa stacks Black on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Wasa!
The referee asks Wasa politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Wasa prefers to stall for the moment though.

Anton Wasa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Wasa has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
