PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Gonzalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacek Szpaczynski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pedro Gonzalez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jacek Szpaczynski!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Yves DeLean and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gonzalez lands a really nice looking cross but Szpaczynski seems unphased.

Gonzalez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Szpaczynski is controlling him.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Szpaczynski postures up in Gonzalez's guard and throws a big left but Gonzalez blocks it.
Szpaczynski tries to free his leg and advance position but Gonzalez is retaining full guard.
Szpaczynski slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jacek Szpaczynski hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Gonzalez scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Gonzalez scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Szpaczynski closes the distance and clinches up with Gonzalez, looking for a takedown. Szpaczynski pushes Gonzalez against the cage but Gonzalez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Gonzalez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Szpaczynski enables Gonzalez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Szpaczynski manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Szpaczynski really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gonzalez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gonzalez pushes Szpaczynski off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Gonzalez has clasped his hands together around Szpaczynski's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gonzalez is looking to take a break and control but Szpaczynski is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Gonzalez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gonzalez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Szpaczynski's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gonzalez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
